Take a hike of a forest.  Use your notebook to keep notes.  When you describe how to identify each of these, give detailed sentences instead of one-word answers.

Deciduous trees, shrubby underbrush and wildflowers dominate forests of Ohio.  The wildlife consists of the small game animals, birds, etc noted in the accompanying packet from the Ohio Division of Natural Resources Life History Notes.

Be able to locate the Big Dipper, the Little Dipper, the North Star, and one other constellation.

3: ASTRONOMY: Requirement:

Explain the legend about 1 of the constellations from item 2.

Use your notebook to explain.  Here is an example:

ORION, the hunter:  When this giant hunter met Artemis, goddess of the hunt (Greek Mythology), her brother Apollo feared for her.  Apollo sent Scorpius the Scorpion to attack Orion.  Orion jumped into the sea to get away.  Apollo then tricked Artemis to shoot an arrow at a dark spot in the sea as practice.  She didn’t know that Orion was hiding there.  She accidentally killed him.  She tried to have him revived, but couldn’t, so she placed him in the sky to eternally fight with the scorpion.

4: TERRARIUM:  Requirement:

Do one of the following:
-Make an indoor desert garden or woodland terrarium, using 5 plants.
-Or make an aquarium and keep 3 species of fish in it.

We will use bottles to make our terrariums.  They will be woodland terrariums.  List your five plants in your notebook.

A terrarium is a miniature artificial garden.  You act as the weather, source of water and nutrients.  There are many sources of inexpensive materials for your terrarium.  Many of them are free; school, backyard, church and your neighborhood all provide free sources of plants and materials.  You can plant seeds or small plants and mosses in your garden.

An aquarium is an artificial lake or stream.  To successfully keep fish requires that you learn about your fish and from what habitat they come from.  Make sure you keep your water clean, provide enough food, and air for the fish to breathe.
