John Bartel Leist married Sophia KOLBIN [or KOLB] in Gotzingen, Baden, Germany on April 27, 1831 (Sophia was born Aug 21, 1810 in Zimmern, Germany). John immigrated from Baden to the United States with his wife and 7 children, entering the United States at New York in July 1847 and settling in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin Territory. John Bartel Leist became a U.S. citizen August 2, 1847 by filing his intention with the Brown Co.
