John Bartel Leist married Sophia KOLBIN [or KOLB] in Gotzingen, Baden, Germany on April 27, 1831 (Sophia was born Aug 21, 1810 in Zimmern, Germany). John immigrated from Baden to the United States with his wife and 7 children, entering the United States at New York in July 1847 and settling in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin Territory. John Bartel Leist became a U.S. citizen August 2, 1847 by filing his intention with the Brown Co. District Court, swearing his allegence to the U.S.A. and denouncing Leopold, Grand Duke of Baden, where he had been a subject. On Mar 1, 1850 John B. LEIST & John V. SUYDAM bought 40.35 acres of land in Manitowoc Co. WI (NWNW Sec.6; 19N; 24E) from Green Bay Land Office .

Marcus married January 8, 1856 at Manitowoc Rapids, Manitowoc Co., WI to Rosina 'Rosa' MOHR.3,5 Rosina, the daughter of Johann MOHR and Theresa Mary LAETEL, was born March 11, 1834 in Luechtenburg, Bavaria or Bayern, Germany and immigrated to the U.S. in September 1843 with her father's family.
