Star Ocean EX

Star Ocean EX is an anime based on the Playstation rpg, Star Ocean the second story. For those of you who have played the game before, the story and events are exactly the same, but now you can see a little more on what the characters are thinking

There are, of course, some slight changes here and there and uh.. it's been confirmed, Claude, Rena, Celine, and Ashton are in the main team and everyone else, except for Noel and Chisato, pop up from time to time. And the bad part is they never make it to Energy Nede. That's why the entire anime got cut to only 26 episodes.

For those of you who have never played the game before, here is a summary.

Spoilers for episode 1-2.

Claude C. Kenni is the son of the captain, Ronixis Kenni, who is also a great war hero on earth. It was Claude's first day working under his father on the starship, Calnus. Their job is to investigate the unexplored planet, Milocinia.

Claude really admires his father, but after an incident and a test of courage on the ship, Claude realizes he will never be as great as his father.

After reaching Milocinia, Claude decides that he wants to be strong and not a wimp. So while the team is researching an old structure on the planet, he goes in without caring about the dangers and starts fiddling with the alien equipment.

The research team and his father calls him to come back out, but it is too late; the thing starts glowing and it pulls Claude into it, sending him to a different place.

He gets sent to the uncivilized planet, Expel. While wandering around in one of the planet's forests, he saves a girl from a monster with his father's phase gun. Coming from an uncivilized planet, the girl had never seen a laser gun before; therefore, she mistakens him for the legendary warrior of light, who is said to be carrying a sword of light.

The girl, Rena Lanford, takes Claude to her village and introduces him to the mayor, Regis. Regis knows that Claude is from a different planet by looking at his clothes.

The mayor tells Claude the story of the legendary warrior of light. When Expel is in danger, a warrior with a sword of light will come to the planet and save the people. He explains to Claude that Expel is now in a state of crisis.

After a strange meteor, called the "Sorcery Globe" on the planet, had crashed onto Expel, the planet became filled with monsters and unnatural disasters.

Claude rejects being the legendary warrior. He explains that he is powerless and that he only came here by accident. Regis realizes he is not the warrior and says he will help Claude get back home.

Rena, on the other hand, is really hurt by this because she believed Claude is the legendary warrior. She runs away, leaving Claude with the mayor and her mother.

The next day, Rena gets kidnapped and now Claude has to choose between saving Rena and becoming her warrior or just continue finding a way to get back home. What will he choose? ...well, that's in episode 3.

What do I think about Star Ocean EX? ...I can't say it's the best anime in the world, but I think it's an anime with everything in it. It's got a nice steady story going - not the best story in the world, but it still has the ability to surprise you. It has a lot of likeable and unique characters. And the artwork and animation are very good. Man, this is a pretty short anime! This one only has 26 episodes in all.
