HOOK 'EM! The 2000 NFC Championship was played in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada's Ivor Wynne Stadium at 4:00 P.M. on August 12, where the 7-1 Oakville Longhorns, who had previously destroyed the Sudbury Spartans 45-21 in their first playoff game, went head-to-head against the 5-3 Sault Ste. Marie Storm, who had recently squeaked by the North Bay Bulldogs 10-18 in semi-final play. The result was a 38-3 Burlington bombing of Soo squad, in front of 700 fans. Thus the Longhorns have defended their Northern Football Conference title a straight eighth consecutive year. The Longhorns then advanced to the 2000 CSFL Championship, which was played in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada's Winnipeg Municipal Stadium at 2:00 P.M. on October 8, where the Eastern Division champion Longhorns rammed horns with the Central Division champion Winnipeg Mustangs, who had previously squeaked by the Western Division champs Calgary Wolfpack 34-20 in semi-final play. That result was a 42-14 Oakville override of the 'Stang studs, in front of 1000 fans. So now the Longhorns have started a new legacy with their first Canadian Senior Football League crown ever in its history. 2001 will be their 9th NFC title run and the 'Horns will be successful so Oskee Wee Wee Oskee Waa Waa the Longhorn Way...
