Chapter 7

There’s Got To Be A Morning After

He disentangles himself from her. He moves silently, groping in the dark for the room service cart. The coffee was cold. The bagles were stale. The Fruit looked as if it had seen better days. What did he expect? He ordered room service five hours ago. He takes a seat in the high back leather club chair and considers calling room service. Maybe later. Andy looks at Connie sleeping. The covers kicked and tangled on the floor. And now, two cups of cold coffee later, still proud, still frightened, he sits across the room watching her. There before him lay an angel. She is beautiful. And now, unable to sleep because the day is done, because her sleep has restricted him, he watches and wonders, how did a mutt like me get so lucky to share my life with someone as extraordinary as her? He thinks back to the night at the diner when they decided not to put a label on their relationship. Did he really once think of her as just a friend? Oh, she is, but much more. Their friendship grew and love became stronger. He thought it was a dream. All that was put to rest after he was held hostage. She was there for him. This fact opened his eyes. It wasn’t a dream. She was there, she still is and will always be there.

When he looks into her eyes there is something that ignites his heart. She has his heart. The heart which he hid and held on firmly to, afraid of being wounded, apprehensive to share. When she came along he knew that was wrong. Connie gave her heart to him. Though he didn’t ask, let alone expect it. For when he lest expect it, when he wasn’t looking, there she was embedded in his heart. In the end, it was commitment they both wanted. She saved his life. This woman who cared for him with so much devotion. How fortunate he felt to be alive/reborn. She repaired the damage others have done. There’s no explaining it. He married his best friend. He didn’t have a choice. Evolution is like that.

He takes off his robe and very carefully, as not to wake her, slips back into bed. He lets her sleep because he loves to watch her. All disarranged and radiating. Dressed up in her undress. He takes great pleasure in this, just looking at her. She catches him doing it sometimes. When she is reading, or feeding Michelle, or just doing her 5’s. She catches him staring at her. Never in the morning though when he wakes up before her. He likes to listen to all the night sounds she makes but won’t admit to. The conversations she has with herself. Most of all, when he looks at her he thanks God for sending her into his life. God will get a better man, one with more tenderness. Because God has allowed Andy Sipowicz to stumble onto Connie McDowell.

He is saved.

She could nearly open her eyes. Through the smallest opening, she could see a vision of blue sitting in the big chair across the room. She closes her eyes and tries to move. That’s not happing. Resolved to this fact, she tries to sink back into sleep and pick up the interrupted dream. Not always easy, but she tries. Last night was like a dream. A dream Connie had an intense persistent wish for. Connie knows they started out as friends, and friends forever they will stay. She knows people have their doubts about them. People show their skepticism when they say nothing is forever. She knows that’s not true. Otherwise, how do you explain the flame in her heart? It is a loving peace she gets from him. These three years were worth the wait. In that short time her dreams have come true. Only once in your lifetime, she believes, you find that certain someone who completely turns your world around. Her days of feeling emotionally bankrupt are gone for good. In Andy, she has found a love so true.

When did it start? The moment she opened her heart and let Andy in? Was it the night she went to him seeking council about her daughter Jennifer who she gave up for adoption? Or the night at the diner? When she had intended to tell him how she felt about him in hopes of bringing them together. She didn’t expect him to send her away, but he did. He brought her back at his own pace. That was when she learned how to love him. Slow and easy. Maybe it the night of their first kiss, after the movie. Ah, yes, their first kiss. She knew he was afraid of getting hurt. But she felt something when they kissed that said he wanted to take a chance. Somewhere in these events, her heart beat a path to his door. Since she has met him, she has fallen in love with him at least a hundred times for a hundred different reasons.

One by one the light of the city went out this morning and the sun took over. The sun, long finger of it fell across them as they slept. As if God Himself were holding them in his hand. They lay there face to face. Her hand resting on his chest. His hand resting on her hip. Connie slowly opens her eyes and sees Andy at her breath’s edge. It fills her head with wonder. Connie McDowell-Sipowicz, a woman who by act of God or intent, stumbled into something so unusual yet real, comes back smiling like a bashful kid from every new experience with his touch. Everyone has a fortune to discover. Looking into his eyes she knows she has found hers. Not quite with his eyes opened and feeling rather thick throated, Andy starts to come to life and find Connie studying him. Awakening this morning after a night of being loved, they give each other a very, very soft smile. Both are in absolute rapture of each other.

Andy: Hay.

Connie: Hay.

Andy: Sleep ok?

Connie: Yeah, and you? Sleep ok?

Andy: Yeah, good.

Connie: Wear you out did I?

Andy: Something like that. Feels good. Not bad for an old man.

Connie: Andy, please….no more “old man” stuff….you more than held up your end last night.

Andy: All right……no more.

Last night they both equally gave unselfishly into each others desires. It amazed Andy how Connie always, without hesitation, gave of herself so completely. Connie marveled at Andy’s generosity in his lovemaking. When she would climax, he was like a man who just received a precious gift.

Connie: I never knew I could love someone as much as I love and need you.

He brushes back her hair then places his hand on her face, leans in to kiss her. A delicious, passionate kiss. She wraps her arms around his neck. He moves his hand to the small of her back and pulls her in. He wants her to feel secure. They are breast to breast and hip to hip. She pulls away from the kiss with a sultry smile on her face.

Andy: There it is…..that smile……it weakens me.

His hand slide to her backside and he gives a soft squeeze. She can feel him getting hard against her thigh. She reaches down and touches him gently.

Connie: What’s this all about?

Andy: That’s just me pushpin’ my luck.

Connie: Yeah, huh. Let me tell you……luck has nothing to do with it.

She continues to stroke him ever so gently while kissing his neck.

Andy: Hay, none of them there love marks, you hear?

Connie: Not where anyone will see them anyway ( with a smart-ass grin on her face)

Andy: Oh, boy. Your gonna be trouble.

Giving him a nudge, she puts him on his back. She reaches over him for the baby oil on the nightstand. She places a small amount in her palm and drizzles a little onto his thighs and lower stomach. She takes his member back into her hand and starts to massage with slow, savory strokes. She put her head on his chest as if to listen for his heart beat.

Andy: This seems a little one sided, don’t you think?

Connie: Don’t think Andy, just enjoy. I’m sure it will all even out in a bit.

She then kneels beside him and increases her strokes ever so slowly. She is remindful to include all of his privates in the action. Andy slips his hand between her thighs and finds her responsive to his touch. He places his finger between her forbidden softness and joins in her cadence. His finger slides inside of her with his palm resting on “that spot”. Her hips begin to move to and fro. Theirs is a passion that burns slowly. He leans up on his elbow and with his tongue encircles her nipple until it stands erect. Her skin has a salty-sweet taste to it. The enthusiasm is increasing. She straddles him with her back to him. She mounts him with the eagerness to please. He anticipates the invitation into her body. Gracefully, he enters into her body. The oil has made him as slippery as an overflowing lamp. He sits up and brushes her hair forward kissing her neck and reaches round to grasp her breast. She willingly lets his tongue seduce her skin. She moves effortlessly along his member with a lazy circulating motion of her hips. He is dying with his eyes wide open. He lies down and takes hold of her hips and tries to persuade her to bounce. He is out of control when it comes to her. But part of him doesn’t care. She bends forward and glides him in and almost out of her. In and almost out…….in and almost out.

Andy: I’ll give you ½ an hour to stop that.

She looks back over her shoulder and smiles at him. She knows he’s about ready to explode because she is about to erupt. She feels his release spill into her. Together as on, they reach the point of exquisite climax. Both are shaking in the glorification of their passion when the phone rings.

Connie: OH, YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!

Ring,ring

Andy: What the hell…

Ring,ring

Connie: Andy, I ..can’t…move!

Andy: Well that makes two of us.

Ring,ring

Connie: This cannot be happening.

Andy: Ok, all right….there…it stopped. Probably security askin’ us to keep it down.

Connie: What if it was an emergency?

Andy: If it was Jr. would have called on my cell.

Connie: Is it on?

Andy: Yes it’s on.

Connie: Where is it? Your phone?

Andy: Boy, you sure ask a lot of question for a woman who’s just…

Connie: Andy!

Andy: Its right here. See, no incoming calls since last night.

Connie: Last night? When last night?

Andy: When you were in the shower, Jr. called to see if we liked the room.

Connie: Oh, all right.

They lay side by side holding hands, lost in their own private thought for a minute or two.

Connie: The way I feel right at this moment, I know my life will never be the same. I think of what we are, wanting the best for Andy, Theo, Michelle and myself. This is the feeling in my heart when I see that sweet smile of his. When I’m in his arms, any doubts I have just disappear. I, now know there is no reason to be afraid.

Andy: (rolls onto his side to look at her) For every day that I may draw breath, I will keep a smile on my face because she put it there for me. Thank you Connie, for showing me that there is such a thing as true happiness.

Andy: Hay, you hungry?

Connie: Yeah, I could go for some food. Hay, did you ever get around to ordering room service last nigh?

Andy: Ah, yeah, but there’s nothing we could eat now though.

Connie: Alright, how about we shower up and then go get something to eat?

Andy: Together??

Connie: Eat---yes………Shower---no.

Andy: Ah, come on……I’ll behave….I promise.

Connie: Yeah, right (getting out of bed)

Andy: You’re a real stick in the mud you know that.

Connie: Yeah, yeah, whatever (walking into the master bathroom)

Andy sits up in bed and waits for the water to start. When it does, he reaches for the phone and calls the front desk. Ever the cautious detective.

Andy: Hi, this is room 2501, did someone call up here a few minutes ago?

Desk: Yes, I am so sorry sir. That was a wake up call for 2502. I apologize for the inconvenience. I hope I didn’t disturb you?

Andy: Yeah, no problem. So no calls. Any messages?

Desk: No sir. No calls and no messages.

Andy: Ok, thanks.

Andy lays down no the bed and lets out a huge sigh of relief. He closes his eyes and takes a minute to recover.

Andy: (thinking to himself) This was nice. This time alone. Being able to just be ourselves. Not a mom, not a dad, not a cop. Just us. These past few weeks have been a bitch. Well in a few hours it will all be back to normal---whatever that is. Man, am I hungry. She better no be using all the hot water.

Andy gets up and get his shaving kit and shower stuff. The bathroom door is opened a little. Slowly he enters and sees her curvaceous form behind the etched glass. She has no clue he is in the room with her. She is lost in the euphoria of the past few hours. She will cherish forever last night and this morning. He takes a seat on the small bench and turns his attention to the gentlewoman behind the glass. He is mesmerized. The warm water feels pleasing on her skin as she drifts off in thought.

Connie:Sometimes I wonder if I’ll make a good wife. Things enter my mind and I know it is undeniable, that nothing has changed and I’ll always love Andy. Here is a man I thought I’d never know. And he ends up being the one who stole my heart so innocently. I look into his eyes and see a wonderful man. When he looks in mine, its like he’s reading my soul.

Connie steps out of the shower and sees Andy sitting on the bench with a single tear running down his cheek.

Connie: Andy? Are you ok? Are you crying?

Andy: Beauty does that to me. I’ve been sittin’ here thinkin’ about you.

Connie wipes away his salty tear and holds his head to her bosom.

Connie: I made you cry?

Andy: I’m crying because I am the most fortunate man on the face of this earth. I don’t know where I’d be without you, probably dead somewheres.

Connie: It’s me who would be dead……inside, my soul. Please don’t cry?

Andy: (kisses her softly) I love you. (he closes his eyes and wraps his arms around her) I love you because my heart is yours and you treat it with respect. You have totally changed my outlook on life. I love the way I know you’ll never give up on me. I’m a different person, a better one. You challenge me to be the best me.

They look into each other eyes, lost….no, found. Connie kisses him with a fire no kiss should lack.

Connie: We have a very long future in front of us. Never let your past determine what your…….our future will be. I believe in love. I believe in forever. I believe in us. No matter how far or how long, my love will still be yours.

Andy kisses her forehead.

Connie: I love how I feel when you kiss me there.

Andy: I have it all now and it’s all because of you. Forever for you.

Andy rises from the bench and hugs Connie as if his life depended on it. Her skin feels cool and smells luscious. He kisses her head and takes ½ a step back.

Andy: Thank you.

He has managed to blow her away, again. He wipes away her tears.

Andy: That’s enough crying. Let me get my shower and we’ll get going.

Connie: Sounds good.

After they had showered, gotten dressed and packed, they went to get some breakfast. Andy noticed a quaint restaurant as they were checking in last night. He slipped the materdee $10.00 for a quiet booth away from the crowd. They both ate as if they were heading to the electric chair. After they finished eating they went to check out. At the front desk they ran into David. He wished them well and got them a cab. It was a gorgeous day in New York City. Clear blue sky and magnificent sunshine.

Andy: Why don’t we go home and get the kids and your mom and go to the park for a while.

Connie: That sounds like a great idea. Mom would like that.

The rest of the ride was quiet. They had said it all in words and in actions. Andy paid the cabby and got their bag out of the trunk. Before they got into the apartment, Connie took Andy by the arm and looked into his eyes.

Connie: You are the greatest gift in my life.

Andy: (brushing back her hair) When I take my last breath, you will be the one my heart is longing for.

His words put her soul at ease.

The rest of the day was a true family day. They did go to the park and have a swell time. Later they went for pizza and ice cream. On the way home they stopped and picked up a movie. After that it was a quiet night watching Monsters Inc. And when Monday came the y went to work. Andy returned to his ball busting, no holds bar way of doing things. Connie went back to her kick ass, streetwise ways. And she never called the babysitter again.
