More Than Words
An Episode Expansion to the ending of
“Meet The Grandparents”
Rated: PG
There are simply not enough adjectives
in the English language to describe how happy I am that Connie finally said
those “three little words” to Andy. Now if I can just get Andy to say them
to Connie all will be right with the world. And in this fanfic, he gets the
chance to do exactly that.
Here’s my take on what happens next
after Theo so rudely interrupts their conversation at the end of Meet The
Grandparents. I’m locking Theo in his room and installing a lock on Andy and
Connie’s bedroom door for this scene to continue (only it’s all one sided on
Andy’s part!!!).
Enjoy!

More Than Words
Saying I love you
Is not the words I want to hear
from you.
It’s not that I want you.
Not to say, but if you only knew
How easy it would be to show me how
you feel
More than words is all you have to
do to make it real
Then you wouldn’t have to say
that you love me
‘cause I’d already know.
What would you do if my heart was
torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those
words away
Then you couldn’t make things new
Just by saying I love you
More than words
Now I’ve tried to talk to you and
make you understand.
All you have to do is close your
eyes
And just reach out your hands and
touch me
Hold me close, don’t ever let me
go
More than words is all I ever
needed you to show
Then you wouldn’t have to say
that you love me
‘cause I’d already know.
What would you do if my heart was
torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That you love for me is real
What would you say if I took those
words away
Then you couldn’t make things new
Just by saying I love you.
More than words.
Andy sat on the couch looking over his pension plan trying to figure out a way
they could liquidate more money for this impending court battle. Connie was in
the bedroom with Michelle giving her a bottle and Andy had just tucked Theo into
bed for the night.
At last, it seemed they might have a moment’s peace together. Connie walked
out of the bedroom.
“You coming to bed???”
“In a little while…”
“Andy, c’mon, we’ll revisit this in the morning when we meet with the
attorney.”
She took his hand and pulled him toward the bedroom.
“C’mon, let’s get to sleep.”
“OK, I’ll be there in a minute.”
“Don’t be too long.” And Connie proceeds to give him a kiss on the cheek
and Andy returned it with a quick kiss.
Andy sat there pondering just how they were going to pay for all this and if
that judge would really take Michelle away from them. He didn’t want to think
how devastated Connie would be if Michelle were to be taken away from them. For
Connie, it would be like losing Jennifer all over again. He just had to find a
way to make things right. He wouldn’t let them take Michelle away from her.
They had become a real family in the last few months and it was due in no small
part to Connie’s efforts to keep it all afloat. She was a remarkable woman and
with each passing day, Andy found himself falling more in love with her.
He’d mentioned “getting married” several times to her today and Connie
didn’t seem to bristle when he suggested it. It seemed she didn’t have any
objections to it. He didn’t quite know what to say when she’d told him she
loved him. He was dumbfounded. He still couldn’t believe his luck…that this
beautiful lady could love him…Andy Sipowicz with all his faults, all his
flaws, and all his demons. He was so lucky to have her be a part of his life. He
knew he loved her. He just wasn’t quite sure how to tell her.
He’d decided to call it a night and turned off all the lights in the apartment
and made sure the apartment was locked up for the night. He entered their
bedroom and found Connie almost asleep as he climbed into bed beside her. As he
got settled in, he reached over her and turned the light off by her nightstand.
It looked as if she’d been reading the summons that had been presented today
in court by the Colohan’s attorney. He removed the document from her hands and
laid it on the nightstand next to their bed and then pulled the covers up around
her.
As he did so, she seemed to instinctively know that he was there even though she
was almost in deep slumber. She reached over, put her left arm over his
chest and laid her head against him and let out a deep contented sigh. He lay
there with her in his arms listening to the steady beating of her heart and held
her close. He cherished these stolen moments while she slept…just holding her
in the stillness of the night when all was quiet.
He promised himself he’d always be there for her to watch over her and protect
her. He loved her so much. It felt so good to feel that way again. To love
someone with your entire heart. A part of him had been so lonely and empty after
Sylvia died. Connie filled those spaces with her love. He kissed the top of her
head as she slept and whispered into the darkness of the night:
“I love you, Connie McDowell. I won’t let anything happen to you or to this
family.”
The End
