A Place Where Magic Lives

Author’s Note:

I decided to write this little ditty because I was extremely frustrated that we didn’t get to see at least part of Andy and Connie’s trip to Disney World. I wrote this story to fill in the blanks. The story takes place at the end of “Dead Meat in New Deli” and before they get back from the Disney vacation in “Better Laid Than Never”.

As always, my primary goal is to keep them moving forward. And that’s just what this story sets out to accomplish.

Your VP,

Well, she’d done it. She booked the flight and was able to get on the floor below their hotel room. She was going with them. Connie hurried home to pack and grab a few hours of sleep. Their plane departed early the next morning. She smiled when she thought about what the day had brought.

She was feeling many things this evening as she drove home to pack. Happy, anxious, and a just a wee bit nervous. In less than 24 hours, Andy had managed to turn her whole world upside down. How did she let him do that to her anyway? Was it that obvious that she was falling for him? He convinced her to come with him and Theo to Florida. Not that she needed much convincing. She had also wanted to go. It was the back and forth that had gotten old.

He must be coming around she thought. She was sure the events of the last few weeks had certainly played into his decision to invite her again. She remembered back to that day when he had been held hostage. She had never been so scared in all her life. Seeing Andy with a gun to his head had shaken her to her core. She never wanted to feel that helpless again especially where he was concerned. She vowed from now on she’d be there for him no matter what.

Perhaps, in the end, that struggle had allowed him to gain some perspective about what things were really important to him and she was glad he considered her to be one of those things.

Tonight after she’d finished booking the hotel, they’d shared a brief moment alone and in that moment, Connie thought she’d seen at least a glimpse of the man he tried so hard to keep hidden and private. She’d almost reached over and kissed him when he looked at her that way. She knew this was all so new to him. Well, she had news for him. This was new to her too.

So she decided to take her time and not to rush him. She wanted to keep things simple and uncomplicated between them no matter how much she wanted to get this relationship moving forward. She was determined to always let him know where she stood. Like she’d told him tonight, he didn’t have to question it. Everything she felt for him was right here in her heart.

The next morning she got up, grabbed a taxi and met Andy and Theo at LaGuardia. Theo was quite excited and if the truth be told so was Connie. She was looking forward to this…just spending the gift of time with both of them but especially with Andy. She was hoping he’d let down his guard enough on this trip that he’d allow her to really break down the walls he’d been putting up for such a long time now.

They boarded the plane and sat down. Theo took a window seat next to Connie and Andy sat next to her. As the plane took off, Andy took her hand and squeezed it tight.

“I’m glad you’re here.” He’d told her.

“Me too.” She replied as she squeezed back.

They landed a few hours later and got settled into their hotel rooms. They spent the rest of the day in the Magic Kingdom. Theo was having such a good time. The day just seemed to fly by. They got back to their hotel late that evening around 11:00 p.m. They’d shared a wonderful day together. Theo insisted that Connie stay for a while and tuck him in for the night.

Andy watched silently as she kissed his boy goodnight and tucked him into bed. Theo was becoming more and more attached to her. And Theo wasn’t the only one. Hell, he was becoming attached to her too. He wanted nothing more right now than to spend some time alone with her.

They went out into the hallway to say goodnight. Connie wished this magical day would never end. She felt a little like Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty all rolled into one. She’d been dreading their parting tonight since dinner.

“Connie, I can’t thank you enough for coming with us. I’m just so glad you said yes.”

“The feeling is mutual Andy. With you is where I always want to be.”

“Well, good night…I’ll see you tomorrow. Remember we’ll need to be up early.” And he reached up to touch her face and kissed her on the cheek. Connie returned his kiss and then found his lips. It was a slow, sweet kiss that lingered. She had to let him know that she felt the same things he was feeling at this very moment. She wanted Andy to know just how he really made her feel.

Andy thought to himself “This is going to be a long week.”

They parted for a moment so they both could regain their composure. Then Connie reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him again. She deepened the kiss this time so there would be no mistaking her feelings. Andy returned the kiss. After all, two can play at that game.

“We could be arrested for disturbing the peace.” He told her as he released her.

“I’ll take my chances, Andy.”

“We better say “goodnight” and then he planted a quick kiss on her forehead.

They parted company for the evening and went back to their separate rooms.

Connie unlocked the door to her hotel room. Once inside, she changed for the night and tried to go to sleep but sleep wouldn’t come. Her mind was racing with so many thoughts and feelings. So she sat up in bed and read for a while. Anything to get her mind off of Andy. But nothing seemed to help. She wanted desperately to go back to their room but she knew she couldn’t. Today had been a very positive step forward. Andy seemed to be coming around. Who knew what the future held in store for them. Anything was possible. And with that, she finally drifted off to sleep.

On the floor above her, Andy tossed and turned in his bed and tried not to wake Theo. Even though there were two double beds in the room, Andy still was having a hard time calming his nerves after kissing Connie out in the hallway. God, when they kissed each other like that, he knew she had the power to undo him.

They had a deluxe suite that separated the beds and bathroom from the kitchenette and living room area by a door. He could close the door to the bedroom area and invite Connie to stay and watch TV tomorrow night after they put Theo to bed. He just wanted to spend time with her. He was trying to find any excuse just so she’d stay. Maybe tomorrow night he’d ask her to stay longer.

One thing was for certain. This certainly wasn’t going to be a restful vacation. Neither one of them was going to get much sleep on this trip.
