This I Promise You

Rated: PG

Your Author’s Notes:

Here’s a little wedding moment I’d like to see Stevie and the boys produce for the end of a WEDDING EPISODE or I’d like to see ABC use as part of a wedding promo. I swear I SHOULD be doing ABC’s advertising campaigns!!! I can see it all so clearly in my head. I’m ready to make my own commercial!!!

The lyrics to this popular love song have been dancing around in my head for some time now and I saw these lyrics as a way to vocalize exactly what we as A & Cers see between Andy and Connie. If you want to get a five-minute synopsis of this relationship, all you have to do is put this song on and just add the video footage and you’ll get the mental picture that all of us see. You can see all the moments…oh so clear…think last scene to “Lie Like a Rug”; the end of “Moms Away” when Connie shows up at Andy’s doorstep crying; the telephone conversation at the end of “Jealous Hearts”; the surprising kiss Connie plants on Andy in “Oh Mama”; the defining moment of their relationship at the end of “Oedipus Wrecked”; the kisses at the end of “Better Laid Than Never” and “Ho Down”. Yep, that’s it…visualize now A & Cers!!! LOL!!!!

The lyrics are about two people pledging their love for each other by giving each other hope, strength and love.

That’s why I thought this might be the perfect wedding song for these two lost and battered souls that have struggled to make it through everything and survive. Consider this my little wedding gift to our favorite duo.

Enjoy!

Your VP (who will be the first in line to congratulate the happy couple and give them some sound “wedding night” advice…lock all doors!!!!) ;-)

It had been a wonderful ceremony in the small, intimate banquet room of this quaint restaurant that Connie loved on the Upper West Side. Friends and family surrounded them. It had been such a memorable day filled with love and laughter. About 50 people were able to share this special day with them. Although many of them were co-workers, they were considered close friends as well.

The soft strains of the music began as they took the dance floor for their first dance together as husband and wife.

When the visions around you bring tears to your eyes.

And all that surrounds you are secrets and lies.

I’ll be your strength.

I’ll give you hope.

Keeping your faith when it’s gone.

The one you should call was standing here all along.

He took her in his arms and held her close to him as they danced around the room. They stood there lost in each other and in this moment. After all they’d been through together in the past year or so, it seemed that God was finally smiling down on both of them. Andy knew what a lucky man he was. He had the woman he loved in his arms. Connie melted into him and wrapped her arms around his neck. They clung to each other as they danced. Andy kissed her forehead. She whispered in his ear “Hold me…tighter.” Life didn’t get any better than this.

And I will take you in my arms.

And hold you right where you belong.

Till the day my life is through.

This I promise you.

This I promise you.

The past year or so had been quite a ride. But through it all, they had prevailed. They gave each other hope and strength. Andy thought back to when he and Connie had begun to partner together after Danny disappeared and how she had saved him as he teetered on the brink of relapse with his alcoholism once it was known that Danny had been murdered. Connie had been there to catch him and didn’t let him fall. Her unwavering belief in him gave him pause and made him reflect. When he really sat to think about it, he knew fate had intervened and sent him this beautiful angel named Connie McDowell. How do you love someone enough for healing the other half of your soul?

I’ve loved you forever in lifetimes before.

And I promise you never will you hurt anymore.

I give you my word

I give you my heart.

This is a battle we’ve won

And with this vow,

Forever has now begun.

They’d been through a lot together. He’d helped her deal with the painful realization of losing her birth daughter, Jennifer, to adoption. He’d been there for her as well over this past year especially since the death of her sister. It had been a rough battle with the Colahans but Connie got custody of Michelle. They’d weathered that storm together. She’d been appointed Michelle’s legal guardian and adopted mother by the courts. Andy knew that he and Connie could provide a good life for the baby.

He glanced over the crowd and saw Diane Russell looking back at them with tears in her eyes. He smiled and winked at her. So many of the people in this room were so special to both of them. He owed Diane so much.

Just close your eyes each loving day.

And know this feeling won’t go away.

Till the day my life is through.

This I promise you.

This I promise you.

Over and over I fall when I hear you call.

Without you in my life, I just wouldn’t be living at all.

He glanced at Connie as she buried her head into his chest as they danced. He had so much to be thankful for. Tears came to his eyes as he held her tighter. She glanced up at him then and saw his tears. She kissed his face and whispered “I love you , Andy Sipowicz.”

And I will take you in my arms.

And hold you right where you belong

Till the day my life is through

This I promise you.

Just close your eyes each loving day.

I know this feeling won’t go away.

Every word I say is true.

This I promise you.

Till the day my life is through.

This I promise you.

The strains of the music ended as their friends, family and co-workers surrounded and congratulated them at the end of the dance. The reverie was broken. The moment had ended but forever had just begun.
