Extended Final Scene - Better Laid Than Never

By Loweonthego

I

BACKGROUND: After the season 9 finale (Better Laid Than Never - Pt. 2) we were all left to ponder (all summer) how Andy and Connie's date went after the kisses they shared at the amusement park. This is my interpretation of how that night, date and episode would have gone.

SCENE 1 Andy's Apartment. Andy and Connie have just returned with Theo from their night at the amusement park. The threesome enter the apartment.

ANDY: Theo, it's getting late. You should go get your pajamas on. And don't forget to brush your teeth.

THEO: (whining, looking at Andy) Do I have to? Connie's still here.

ANDY: Yeah, you have to. Now scoot.

Theo slowly trudges off to the bedroom. Connie and Andy find themselves standing in the living room feeling a little awkward.

ANDY: With all the sugar he's had he'll be up all night. (waiting a beat) You want some coffee or something?

CONNIE: No, I'm fine. Uhm, maybe I should go, it's getting a little late.

ANDY: (Wanting her to stay a little longer.) You have to go so soon?

CONNIE: (with a smile and a wink) I need to clean my apartment before tomorrow night...I have a special dinner guest coming over, you know.

ANDY: (serious) You don't have to do anything special. (looking to see if Theo's coming - and moving closer to Connie) It'll be nice to spend some time together.....

CONNIE: (moving closer to Andy and finishing his sentence) .....just us two. (She starts to give Andy a kiss when...)

THEO: (running into the room) Connie, you want to watch some tv with me? (looking at Andy) Ok Daddy?

CONNIE: (stepping back a little from Andy) Honey, I have to go home now. How about if I tuck you into bed?

THEO: OK! (He turns and runs towards his bedroom.)

Connie gives Andy a smile and follows Theo to the bedroom. Theo jumps into bed and Connie sits on the bed next to him.

CONNIE: Did you brush your teeth? (straightening out the covers on the bed and tucking Theo in)

THEO: (giving her a big smile - showing off his teeth) I did....see.

CONNIE: I see! (pulling the covers up around Theo) You have sweet dreams now, ok?

THEO: When are you coming back Connie? I had fun tonight.

CONNIE: I'll see you real soon. Maybe this weekend.

THEO: I'm going to miss you.

CONNIE: (giving him a hug) I'm going to miss you more! (Gives him a little kiss on the forehead.)

Connie stands up and turns the lamp off on the table next to the bed. As she turns to leave she sees Andy watching them from the doorway to Theo's room. Connie walks to him and together they walk out to the living room.

ANDY: You're good with him. He really likes you alot.

CONNIE: Well, I like him alot too. (with a smile) He's easy to like - just like his dad.

ANDY: (rolling his eyes) Oh, yeah. (waiting a beat) You sure you don't want to stay for a little while?

CONNIE: I should be going. (shyly) Tonight was fun...it was nice. I'm glad we were able to talk...you know, at the park, earlier.

ANDY: Yeah, me too.

CONNIE: I guess I'll see you at work in the morning.

ANDY: I'll be there.

Neither really wants to say Good Night... and prolong their time together as long as possible.

CONNIE: OK then. (She reaches up and gives him a gentle kiss on the cheek....which leads to a short, soft kiss on the lips. You can sense their frustration. They both want more....maybe tomorrow night? That's the only thought in Connie's mind that is allowing her to leave so soon....she has tomorrow night to look forward to.)

ANDY: Night.

CONNIE: Good Night, Andy.

SCENE FADES OUT

SCENE 2: 15th Precinct Squad Room. Mid-Afternoon. Ortiz and McDowell are returning from picking up a suspect in a jewelry store robbery. The squad is otherwise quiet.

CONNIE: (handing off the perp to Anti-Crime Josh) Josh, can you get him into a room. We'll be there in a moment.

JOSH: No problem.

RITA: Connie, I need to make a call. Give me a second, ok?

CONNIE: (walking to her desk) Sure.

In walk Andy and Jr. They've been busy finishing up a shooting that originated on the night shift. The shooting left a nightclub patron DOA.

ANDY: (to Jr.) I don't get it. Those kids dress up like that, in those outfits, and dance all night....they spend big money.

JR: Yeah, not exactly my cup of tea. I think they're all trust fund babies. Money to burn...trying to piss off their rich parents.

PAA JOHN: (to Andy) I think they are called Club Kids.

ANDY: (shaking his head) Yeah, well if Theo ever did that sort of thing, I'd club him. They give nothing back to society.

JR: I'll catch up the Lt. on the case.

ANDY: Sounds good.

Jr. heads into the Lt's office. Rita is still on the phone. PAA John steps out for a moment.

ANDY: (Quietly to Connie) So, what time you want me to come over tonight? You know, for dinner.

CONNIE: I don't know, I guess about 7. But you can come over earlier if you want.

ANDY: I gotta meet the sitter after I pick up Theo. (motioning towards PAA John's empty desk) He's not available. So I had to get someone else.

CONNIE: (she's watching him speak but not truly listening to his words) I'm looking forward to tonight.

ANDY: Yeah, me too.

Rita comes walking over.

RITA: You ready?

CONNIE: Yeah. (to Andy) We got a perp on that jewelry robbery. (she smiles) See you later.

Andy acknowledges Connie's comment and gets back to work at his desk. In the hallway Rita stops Connie before they enter the interrogation room.

RITA: Things going good with you and Andy?

CONNIE: Yeah, they are. He's coming over for dinner tonight. (She has a smile like that of a school girl.)

RITA: I'm glad. All that matters is that both of you are happy.

CONNIE: That's right. Well, let's get this over with. I'm ready to get out of here!

Rita and Connie relieve Josh in the interrogation room and go to work.

FADE OUT

SCENE 3 Early evening at Connie's apartment. Connie is franticly running around the kitchen. The doorbell rings.

CONNIE: (looking a little disheveled as she goes to open the door) Hi, come on in.

ANDY: (taking note of her look) Am I too early?

CONNIE: (walking to the living room) No, not at all. I'm glad you're here. (waiting a beat) I got home a little later than I expected.

ANDY: You know, we can go out to dinner if you want. I don't want you to do go to any trouble for me.

CONNIE: (sitting on the sofa) I wanted to make you something special...but I was running so late from work, I had to change my plans...

ANDY: (sitting on the sofa) That's ok.

CONNIE: I've thrown together some salads and I picked up some baked Ziti and chicken on the way home. I hope that's ok with you.

ANDY: (just happy to be there) Sounds good.

CONNIE: (she jumps up from the sofa) You want something to drink? A soda, juice, water?

ANDY: No, I'm fine. (takes her hand as she starts to walk away from the sofa) Connie, sit down, relax.

CONNIE: (she sits back down, still holding Andy's hand) I'm sorry I'm....(searching for what to say)...I just wanted this night to be special for you....(her voice trailing off)

ANDY: It's already special. (He leans over to give Connie a gentle kiss on the lips.)

CONNIE: (smiling) That was nice....

ANDY: (changing the subject) I spoke to the union rep today about making you Theo's legal guardian if something should happen to me. He said he would be by with the paperwork next week, for you to sign - if that's still ok with you.

CONNIE: Of course it is. Andy, you and Theo mean the world to me. We've got something special - you and I - I don't want to put a label on it, but it's special. We make each other happy - don't we?

ANDY: Yeah, we do. You do make me happy. (a little nervous) I just can't believe my good fortune to have someone like you want to be with me.

CONNIE: (quietly) Believe it.

Connie leans over and shares a long passionate kiss with Andy. After the kiss the two pull closer with Connie resting her head on Andy's shoulder.

CONNIE: (teasingly) I got the photos back today from Disney World. Some of them are really funny....like the one with you and Theo wearing the Mickey Mouse ears.

ANDY: (rolling his eyes, with a slight smile) I told you not to bring those Mickey Mouse ears up again...

CONNIE: (rising from the sofa and walking towards her bedroom) Let me get the photos...You won't believe what a ham Theo is in some of them.

Connie walks to the bedroom to retrieve the photos from her bag. As she turns Andy is standing in the doorway.

ANDY: We can look at the photos later.

CONNIE: (Puts the photo envelopes down on the dresser and walks up to Andy) Yeah, we can.

ANDY: (Starting to run his hand through Connie's hair and stares into her eyes.) You are so beautiful. What have I done to deserve you in my life?

CONNIE: (touching Andy's face) I've wanted this for so long. You mean the world to me.

Connie begins to slowly unbutton Andy's shirt as he caresses her face. Andy watches Connie remove her blouse and it falls to the floor. Their bodies come together and they embrace. Andy begins to undo Connie's bra - which is seen falling to the floor, followed quickly by their two pairs of pants. They fall into bed and begin to slowly explore each others bodies. They have both wanted this for so long their feelings and emotions all but explode as each touches the others body. Their passion can be contained no longer.

FADE OUT

SCENE 4 Connie's bedroom later that same night. Connie is resting her head on Andy's chest as they relax in bed - their bodies intertwined. Both have a certain sense of happiness and contentment on their faces.

CONNIE: (very softly but playfully) I never knew you were ticklish.

ANDY: (grabbing Connie's hand) Don't start that again. And if I ever hear this mentioned in the squad, you'll be sorry.

CONNIE: (playfully kissing Andy's ear) It'll be our little secret, ok?

ANDY: I think we've worked up our appetites now..maybe we could have some of that dinner now. Are you hungry?

CONNIE: (she starts to get out of bed and reaches for her robe) I think dinner in bed sounds like a good idea. You stay right here, ok?

ANDY: I'll be here.

Andy watches with admiration as Connie walks out of the room. He knew he could walk on water now. He felt invisible. It had been a long time since he'd felt this way....too long. He knew he cared for Connie, he knew she was someone special that he wanted in his life. Now it was all confirmed. They would be together. They were a couple. He liked the sound of that. He didn't care who else knew or what they thought. It only mattered to the two of them and they knew. Connie returns to the room carrying a tray of food. She carefully climbs back into bed with the tray.

CONNIE: I brought us a bowl of the ziti. (She takes a fork full of the ziti and feeds it to Andy.) How does it taste?

ANDY: It's good. (waiting a beat) I'm hungry.

Andy and Connie quickly finish off dinner with a few kisses between bites. Connie takes the tray back to the kitchen and returns with a surprise.

CONNIE: (as she enters the room) Close your eyes.

ANDY: (closing his eyes) No surprises, ok.

CONNIE: (climbing into bed and under the covers) I promise you'll like it.

ANDY: I'm sure I will but....can I open my eyes now?

CONNIE: No, not yet.....(taking a large stemmed strawberry from a plate and dips it into a bowl of whipped cream) I've got dessert...you can open your eyes. (as she gently feeds the strawberry to Andy)

ANDY: (Eating the strawberry) It's good.

CONNIE: (moving closer to Andy) You have some cream on your moustache. Let me get it. (giving him several kisses)

ANDY: (taking the plate of strawberries and placing it on the table by the bed) Tonight has been nice......(his voice trailing off)

CONNIE: I wish you could stay the night.

ANDY: Can't, Theo is home with the sitter.

CONNIE: I know. We'll have more nights. But I don't want you to leave tonight, not yet.

ANDY: (moving closer to Connie) We still have some time before I have to go.

CONNIE: (climbing on top of Andy and interlacing her hands with his) I know what we can do.

The camera pans across the bed and focuses on the plate of strawberries.

ANDY: (laughter is heard out of camera range) I told you...no tickling..(more laughter)

CONNIE: (out of camera range - laughter turning into passion ) Oh Andy.........
