MELTON, soldier of Company E 17 Alabama, while in discharge of duty on 22 Jul 1864, at Atlanta, Georgia, he was wounded in the head by a gun shot, and in the left leg above the knee and in the healing the skin and leaders or sinews of the leg grew together, making him physically unable to make a livelihood by labor.

He is engaged in business of farming.

I.W. MELTON,   Brownwood, Texas.  Born in Washington Parish, Lousiana.  Enlisted in Confederate Army on May 1, 1861 as Third Lieut., Co. A, 9th Louisiana Infantry, Dick Taylor's Brigade, Jackson's Corps, Army of Northern Virginia.  My first Captain was Walker and First Colonel was Dick Taylor.  Was sick after the first battle of Manassas and was honorably discharged but re-enlisted in Co. A, 28th La., and was elected Captain and was promoted to Colonel.  Was in battle of Franklin, La.; Mansfield and many other engagements.  Will be 89 years old, Sep 20, 1910.  Am in reasonably good health and can walk three-quarters of a mile to a meeting of the camp.  Born 1821.
