Sailing a Cape Cod Mercury with no Jib and No Rudder:
Jibing
Jibing is initiated from a down wind point of sail. Maintain heel opposite the boom to sail increasingly by the lee. It is important to stay forward of the stays (pulling on the mast instead of the stay) to prevent being hit by the jibing boom. Maintain a downwind heading by applying heel opposite the boom after the sail jibes. It is important that the boom is free to travel the full range stay to stay and that the mainsheet is not caught in any way.

Backwards to forwards jibe: Sailing backwards, apply weight to leeward so the stern heads upwind. Place the boom against the upwind stay (keeping weight to leeward by moving forwards) to place the boom in the jibed position and minimize boom movement as the boat jibes.
