Updated 04/01/00:The Flodin Floaters' bid to contend in the NF league suffered an early jolt Tuesday when All-Star third baseman Matt Williams broke a bone in his right foot in an exhibition game against the Seattle Mariners. Team doctors say that Williams likely will be out for 8-10 weeks. That's longer than the original estimate of six weeks.

Updated 03/30/00: The San Diego Padres on Wednesday decided the future can wait, sending highly touted catcher Ben Davis (Floaters, 4B) back to the minor leagues. Davis, 23, was optioned to Class AAA Las Vegas, clearing the way for veteran Carlos Hernandez to start and leaving rookie Wiki Gonzalez as the backup.
