The whole team - ISK Physics, 2000
The management group consists of Miqdad Mohammed, Nader Sharazie and Nurya Shabir. This group's main responsibility is to co-ordinate all the different tasks of maintaining the web page and to divide the tasks between all the students in the class. They established a mission statement which states our goals in creating this web page.
The team that created this web site includes Nader Sharazie, Ahsan Ziauddin, and Sami Kizilbash. This group of people are responsible for the artistic ambiance of the website, as well as the technical aspect. They all work long hours, often at home trying to unravel the complex concepts of HTML. They established a strong base without which this project would not have been realized. They are also responsible for advertising the existence of this page, and inducing awareness in the scientific community.
The Public Relations group has been responsible for the formidable task of presenting and publicizing our web page. They have had to effectively advertise the usefulness of a website devoted to making available satellite images of South Asia, through the Internet. Surprisingly, this site is one of the few that enthusiasts will be able to find information and images on South Asia. Sami Kizilbash and Akbar Dawood, the technical gurus of the group have been assigned the task of designing the pages where this information appears. Imran Sharih, Tamiur Shaikh, Ambreen Tapal, Haala Rokadia, and Fariba Habib, the most prolific and eloquent writers in the class, have produced the short group descriptions that you are now reading. Zoha Shafi and Natasha Riaz, our local artistic prodigies, have so brilliantly captured the images of us decadent teenagers at our best, working on this project.
Shakir Iqbal and Abdul Hakim Khan have been responsible for the supreme and all-important task of assembling, collecting, and uploading the priceless satellite images of South Asia collected from the NOAA 14 and 15 satellites. The task was arduous and tedious, but their sustained efforts have guaranteed the availability of quality images on our site. Thank you guys!
Nader Shirazie, a most committed and enthusiastic physicist-in-the-making, he has taken a great deal of burden upon his mighty shoulders. He has single-handedly been the man behind the ground station and image archive. As chief of the one-man ground station, adjusted the color palette on the WXSAT program -- all absolutely necessary to produce high quality and high-resolution images. As the image archivist, Nader has produced a collection of images, old and new, of South Asia, easily accessible on our website.
The Rann of Kutch is a disputed territory locked between the two hostile neighbors; Pakistan and India. Since independence in 1947, numerous conflicts have arisen as a result of the disputed ownership of this property. Yet the Rann of Kutch is simply a marshland with no resources valuable to man, yet it does house various species of wildlife, and thus forms an extremely important part of the fragile ecosystem of the subcontinent. Diego Konig and Daanish Ghazi have conducted a detailed analysis of this area, following changes in weather and precipitation.
The Hindu Kush mountain range is found in the northern part of Pakistan, and was found to be of interest to two of our fellow students. Juniors at ISK, Diego Konig and Ahsan Ziauddin worked diligently for hours in front of computers and satellite images to research and analyze the movement of ice and the changes in the snow pack in the Hindu Kush.
Our class had its two adult advisors who provided inspiration to begin and see this project through. Mr. Dave Reeves, a high school Physics and Chemistry teacher has been a satellite enthusiast for many years. An American amateur radio operator (call sign KF6PJ), Mr. Reeves was the A.R.R.L. teacher of the year in 1995. Mr. Mike Tweedy is an engineer and lives in Simi Valley, California. Also a ham radio buff (KA6SPT), Mr. Tweedy helped us set up our satellite ground station.
