The Goddess Venus

You give me that luuuuvin' feelin' -- whoa whoa that luuuuvin' feelin'....

Name: Well, Venus. Also known as Aphrodite to the Greeks.

Alias: She went by Victoria Nutly Star in human guise.

Occupation: Goddess of love and sex; also a crimefighter in the Golden Age.

Race: Venus is an Olympian Goddess. In the Golden Age, she resided on the planet Venus, where she reigned supreme, with Cleopatra and Salome as her handmaidens. This has since been retconned away.

First appearance: Venus #1--19.

Affiliation: To the best of my knowledge, Venus never joined a team, aside from the odd team-up here and there.

Powers: As an Olympian Goddess, Venus cannot be killed by conventional means. She is super-humanly strong, capable of lifting up to twenty two tons. Her flesh is three times as dense as a normal human womans, and she is extremely resistant to terrestrial diseases. Venus also has some meaure of control over magical energies. She has not aged since reaching adulthood. Venus also pocesses a magical girdle which renders its wearer irresistable to the affections of others. Her girdle, called Cestus, can also neutralize all objects of war and transform them into objects that can be used for peaceful purposes.

Enemies: Loki, God of Mischief (Venus #5), Neptunia, daughter of the deceased sea God Naptune (Venus #18), Son of Satan (Venus #10) who was not Daimon Hellstrom, and Yellow Claw.

Friends: Sun Girl, Namora. She fought alongside the Human Robot, Marvel Boy, Gorilla Man, and 3-D Man as an ally.

History: Venus resided with the other Roman gods and godesses for centuries. After World War 2, she realized the world was in need of her powers over love, and visited Earth to help spread peace and love throughout a war torn world.

Where can she be seen?: V had her own (rather successful, I might add) series back in the Golden Age. She's popped up here and there in Namor and Marvels Valentines Special, but rarely. Newsflash!: It looks like Venus will be appearing alongside Thor in Marvel: Lost Generation #5, out soon!

Venus links: I have no clue where any might be, but check out Jess Niven's Pre-Fantastic Four heroes page anyway.
