On July 17, 2007 Gold Star Mothers of NH were on hand when NH Governor John Lynch signed two bills honoring New Hampshire service men and women.

“Throughout our history, soldiers, sailors and airmen have risked their lives for our freedom. All of our troops have sacrificed so that we can be free - free to worship as we please, free to speak out against injustice, free to live without fear of oppression,” Gov. Lynch said. “I am honored to sign both of these bills into law today in recognition of the military service of our men and women.”

Senate Bill 223 creates the New Hampshire Medal of Honor to be awarded to any New Hampshire citizen killed during active military duty. Senate Bill 27 requires the POW/MIA flag be displayed at all state-owned facilities. Current law requires the flag to be flown above the State House everyday.

“With these two new laws we recognizing the sacrifices made by the brave New Hampshire men and women who have fought for our freedoms with dignity and courage,” Gov. Lynch said.

SB 223 is sponsored by Sens. Robert Letourneau, Robert Clegg, Joseph Kenney, Jack Barnes, Ted Gatsas; and Reps. Pamela Coughlin, John Graham, Frank Bishop, Ken Hawkins. SB 27 is sponsored by Sens. Barnes, Letourneau, Clegg, Gatsas, Kenney, John Gallus, Sheila Roberge, and Rep. Bishop.
The last Sunday in September is known as Gold Star Mother's Day. To honor our NH Gold Star Mothers a special ceremony will be held on September 30th at 2:00pm at the NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. The public is welcome to attend.

In the words of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944, "There is nothing adequate which anyone in any place can say to those who are entitled to display the gold star in their windows." Each year, this observance is an opportunity to offer our solemn respect to Gold Star Mothers

A Note of Thanks

Our hearts are filled with gratitude for all you’ve said and done
You have remembered the sacrifice of each and every son.

On that bright September Sunday you graced us with your presence
And made sure we knew you cared, and love was of the essence.

It’s difficult to thank you for a ceremony so profound
Where love, respect and caring among the gifts that did abound.

Please know our hearts are lightened to know so many care
Our grief is somehow easier with all of you who share.

On behalf of all the Gold Star Mothers, THANK YOU.
Your thoughtfulness and efforts will be warmly remembered forever.

Wreaths for NH Veterans Cemetery ~ A Gold Star father told us of his Christmas Wish ~ to have a wreath placed on the graves in the NH Veterans Cemetery for the holidays just like they do in Arlington. The Blue and Gold Star Mothers decided that we needed to make this wish come true.
