Newly graduated from the Notre Dame Academy in Omaha , Genevieve Hering , Jeri Southern as she was to become known , looked for work as a pianist . Through an Omaha agent she obtained a six weeks long engagement at a high class hotel in Omaha , the Hotel Blackstone . It was 1943 - and probably about the time of the fall . If a photograph of Genevieve at the Blackstone piano was taken is not known . It can only be hoped that in someone's old photo box such a treasure might still survive. It can be said with certainty that having been a student at the Notre Dame Academy for five years , Genevieve knew the city. She was not a small town girl suddenly apart from the familiarity of her home . |
