Iguanas are herbivorous lizards! In other words, NO PROTEIN! They have specific dietary requirements which must be adhered to if their lives are to last longer than a few years!!! Some examples are Collards, Mustard Greens, Turnip Greens, Pole Beans, Fresh Green Beans, Squash, Sweet Potato, Escarole, Cilantro, Dandilion Greens, Hibiscus, Snow Peas, Blueberries, Strawberries,  the list goes on.  Feel free to email me at the address posted on the index page for dietary links and other questions.
Back to Baby pics
Here is an example of what I feed my lizards. Juvies usually eat one plate per day, but are always offered more if needed. Baby eats twice a day now.  The plate on the right is chopped up smaller and thinly for our younger foster Junior. The plate on the left is Baby's. He can handle a bit larger bite. Both plates consist of  a mixture of Collards, Turnip Greens, Yellow Squash, Green Beans and a few Blueberries. I try to have at least three different items each day with the main staple being the greens.
Dietary Requirements
Update: Since creating this site I have found my lizards absolutely love squash. I usually use collards as my main staple due to the fact that they are high in calcium, but I also use 3-4 types of squash, peel and grate them up, (in food processor)  mix all together, freeze in small baggies and pull from the freezer when needed. They get some everyday, about 1/2 cup on top of their greens. Occasionally, when making the mixture I'll add a little carrot or sweetpotato as well. Picture below...
Iguanas love fresh dandylions from the yard. They can eat the entire plant. Just make sure the ones you pick haven't been sprayed with any kind of insecticide or treated with weed n' feed! Rinse well and watch them lap 'em up.
