Johnston B. Aker was born in Grayson County, Virginia, and was a farmer prior to enlisting at Liberty Mills, Virginia, November 14, 1863. He was wounded in the right leg near Petersburg on June 24, 1864. He returned to duty in November - December, 1864. He retired from duty by reason of his disabling wound on January 4, 1865, at the age of 19. Private Aker is buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
