OUSE AND GARDEN TOUR ~ JUNE 2009  (1 TO 5 P.M.) (read about a past tour)

Rediscover the charm of New Bedford as you stroll through history, taking a nostalgic look back with the Preservation Society on these self-paced walking tours which offer a rare opportunity to visit a selection of private homes in historic New Bedford.  The houses selected represent mid-to late-nineteen century architecture for which the city is justly famous.  Herman Melville recounted in "Moby-Dick" . . .

"The town itself is perhaps the dearest place to live in, in all New England.  . . nowhere in all America will you find more patrician-like houses; parks and gardens more opulent, than in New Bedford."

The Wamsutta Club at 427 County Street will be tour headquarters for both June and December tours. Tourgoers should report to tour headquarters at the start of each tour, where they will exchange their tickets for a tour brochure which will provide details about the properties and the tour route.  During tour hours a raffle of lovely gifts, antiq
ues, handcrafts and gift certificates generously donated by local artists and merchants will be on display at tour headquarters.
