Teaching Philosophy:

The role of the educator is to consistently develop and enhance the level of understanding of their
student body. Continuing education, practical experience, dedication, and a commitment essential
to maintaining teacher efficacy. Collaboration, teamwork, and a belief that all students can succeed
are the foundations required for educational awareness and implementation. It is the responsibility
of educators to innovate and develop lessons that include all students. Student success requires in-
novation, creativity and a balanced instructional approach.

Personal Biography:

I first started teaching as an adjunct instructor at Santa Monica College. I taught design and interactive
media. It was at SMC that I first encountered
students with Learning Disabilities. Not knowing how to
meet these students needs I took a class in Special Ed to learn more about myself as an educator.
The situation got to me as I kept getting a variety of students with differences and I needed a deeper
understanding to be effective. Finding out it was a hot topic, I ended up taking another course in Biolo-
gical Psychology. This lead me to work with a child psychologist who worked with kids with behavioral
problems. The experience eventually lead me to teach in this area of need, Special Education. I've been
fortunate to have been mentored by a special ed teacher (MA in Biological Psychology) who has taught
me classroom management, teaching techniques using accom
adations and cutting edge ideas in edu-
cation. This summer I was trained in Schools Attuned program. I currently teach Life Science,
Reading, and Art and am attending the ACT SPED credentialing program at Cal State Northridge.
