Part Five: Eyes are the Window to the Soul

Serenity didn't ponder what had happened on Earth for very long. In less then a second she was out the door heading for her Endymion. The only thing she could think of was getting to him. Having him hold her again. She didn't care if it was selfish or unrealistic. She just wanted to tell him that she loved him and would never leave him. Endymion ran around the battlefield helping where he could. God he hoped she was safe. If anything happened to her he would…Well he wouldn't think about that right now. He knew what was happening the Moon Kingdom was fighting a losing battle. The Senshi were doing all they could but there was really no hope. He had heard that Pluto and the Outer Senshi had showed up in time to fend off the first wave of attackers but there were to many of them. The Inner Senshi were doing all they could to keep them outside the gates but they too were slowly tiring. Nothing short of a miracle could save the Moon Kingdom. He looked around when he thought he heard someone call his name but no one was there.

" Endy!" Serenity yelled trying to catch up to him. She was so close. Suddenly a woman appeared before her. The woman had long red hair and pointed teeth that curved inward wickedly.

" Princess it so nice to finally meet you," she hissed. Serenity froze and then let out a scream as beam of energy came right for her.

Endymion turned around as he heard her scream. The part of him that was connected to her going cold with fear.

" Mars Fire Soul!" Mars screamed as the fire disinergrated an advancing youma. She couldn't keep this up much longer. She could tell the others couldn't either.

" Venus Crescent Beam,"

" Supreme Thunder,"

" Crash!"

" Smash!" The force of Jupiter's and Venus' attacks blew away two youmas that were trying to scale the palace gate.

" Zocite," Mercury yelled catching sight of her love near the gate. She ran. The others looked up at Mercury' s joyful cry. They all saw their loves beckoning them to open the gates and let them into safety. Mercury and Mars got there first with Jupiter and Venus right behind. Quickly they swung open the gates and slammed them shut behind the four Generals.

Mars turned around and ran straight for Jadeite so glad to see him that she didn't see the empty look in his eyes. The moment before she embraced him he pulled out a long knife. She ran right into it. She recoiled instantly. Looking down at the knife sticking out of her stomach and feeling the cold metal impaling her. The blood slowly spread over her red and white fuku. Turning the white dark crimson as she staggered to the ground. She looked up at Jadeite her violet eyes glazing over. She mouthed Why as her head hit the ground. Jadeite's face remained motionless as he watched his true love die. Their was a brief flicker of grief in his blue eye's as her eyes closed forever, but it was gone as quickly as it came.

Mercury ran into Zoicite's arms all of her shyness forgotten as she felt his arms go around her. She was in heaven until she felt an agonizing pain stab through her upper back heading right for her heart. At first she thought a youma had attacked her from behind, but she knew the truth as she staggered backward and looked into her lover's eyes. She looked at his hands and saw a bloody dagger covered with her life's blood. She looked into his eyes once more searching for any semblance of the man she loved. She found none.

Venus hurried over to Kunzite oblivious to all around her. " Oh I knew you would come back," she exclaimed happily burying her face in his chest. She realized something was wrong when he didn't hug her back. She pulled away from him searching his face for what was wrong. What she found written on that face was pure calm no semblance of feeling whatsoever. She didn't even see the sword driving right for her heart. The sword entered and pierced. She looked down and fell to the ground instantly as the dark red blood spread across her chest. Venus looked back up at Kunzite and whispered the last thing she would say to him for a thousand years, " I forgive you." An understanding of what he had done dawned on Kunzite at that moment but it was soon replaced with the feeling of hatred once again. A single tear mingled with blood slipped down Venus's cheek as she watched her love walk away. Then she took her last breath and died.

Jupiter went straight for Nephrite. It was so good to see him! She thought he was never coming back! Before she even got there he had pulled out his sword and slit her throat before she could even react. The blood poured from the wound as she fell to the ground. Her emerald eyes clouded over and tears slipped out of them as she struggled to draw breath. Nephrite stood over her and she looked up at him. No she couldn't hate him. She turned her head away from him and died looking at the still forms of her friends. Oh God there really was no hope was there?

The Outer Senshi were in the middle of the battle. Most of the Palace Guard was dead or injured and the rest were fading quickly. They had taken heavy losses in the front lines and were losing ground rapidly. Neptune had received a nearly fatal blow early on in the fight and was being guarded by Uranus. Saturn and Pluto were weakening rapidly and there was no hope of reinforcements.

" Ahhh," Pluto screamed as a yoma sliced a gash into her thigh with its sword like hands. Saturn turned around quickly and sliced it in half with her glaive. As Saturn helped Pluto to relative safety they didn't even see Corundum and Maganite come up behind them. Saturn turned around and screamed at the sight of them behind her.

" Oh you guys I'm so glad you're here," she said rushing up to Corundum. He immediately pulled out his sword and slashed her across the stomach spilling her intestines. She doubled over in pain dropping her glaive. " Pluto get out of here warn the others," Saturn croaked out. Pluto stood and cast a portal before Maganite could get to her she had stepped through.

" You will pay," they heard her say as the portal disappeared.

Corundum and Maganite looked down at Saturn. " Is she dead yet," Maganite asked as he looked down at her prone body lying in a pool of blood. Corundum leaned over Saturn to see. Her eyes suddenly opened and she grabbed Corundum's hand with her blood-covered one. He pulled away shocked that she was still alive. " Why Cor? Why would you betray the one's you love and the one's who love you," she whispered and then she closed her amethyst eyes for good.

" World Shaking," Uranus yelled disinergrating the youma that had been heading for her and Neptune. She looked around for the next opponent and to her surprise found none. In the place were there used to be hundreds of enemies know were empty or littered with the dead. " What the hell," Uranus whispered looking down a Neptune. She was unconscious with a huge gash on her head. The air was heavy with the smell of death and evil. Uranus looked around uncomfortable something was wrong. She couldn't even feel the other Senshi. Usually they were able to at least tell when each other were close. But the spot they usually occupied in her subconscious was empty.

She looked up to see two figures approaching her. She smiled. They had come back. She wanted to run to him but stood her ground next to Neptune. They got closer. Why aren't they walking faster she thought impatient to be with her love again. Maybe something's wrong. Maybe it's a trap. Her defenses automatically went up. She prepared to do battle.

" Haruka-chan! Come to me my love! I have missed you," Rubellite said. Uranus hesitated. There was something wrong. Wait Rubellite never called her Haruka-chan he knew she hated that nickname. She raised her sword.

" Who the hell are you," she whispered through clenched teeth.

As soon as she said that his eyes went cold. " Someone you don't want to mess with little girl," he sneered drawing his sword.

" Space Sword Blaster," she yelled sending out a beam of energy at him. He dodged just in time and got back up.

" Dark Mists Enclose," he yelled surrounding her with a purple suffocating mist. She gasped for breath inside the purple cloud. She gathered her strength and jumped straight up landing outside the cloud. Unfortunately Cassorite was right behind her and charged sword drawn, right for her back.

" Deep Submerge!" A funnel of water hit him just as the sword penetrated Uranus's back. It knocked him across the field and left him out of breath and wheezing. Neptune stood up shaking with tears running down her face the cut on her head oozing dark red blood. She looked over at Uranus. Another tear spilled down her cheek. Uranus was dead or dying the wound in her back was deep. She held back a sob and turned around to face them. She had been to late. She held up her mirror to see the truth behind these things that she had come to know and love. She looked into the mirror and saw something so incredibly evil that she sunk down to her knees. " There's no hope," she whispered. " She looked up to Cassorite smiling down at her.

" It's the smile that gets them every time," he whispered in her ear as her plunged the sword into her chest.

Pluto had come too late. She had found Uranus and Neptune lying almost side by side soaked in blood. Why couldn't she have stopped this? Why couldn't she change time just this once? She knew why. It was her job to guard time not to alter it. She sobbed as she sat next to her friend's dead bodies. She sobbed for the princess and her prince the Moon Kingdom and she sobbed because she knew there would be more bloodshed and grief and she couldn't do anything to change it.

Endymion lunged for Serenity knocking her out of the way just in time. The energy hit him full in the back and he cringed as he felt it go through his armor and burn his broad back. Serenity scrambled out from under him and helped him to stand. Whoever this bitch was they would face her together. Beryl laughed. This was hilarious to see the prince and his wretched little princess.

Beryl sent a ball of crackling energy right for them. Endymion reacted fast and pushed Serenity out of the way falling a couple feet from her. Beryl laughed. " Azure Fire Surround," a voice yelled. A ball of blue fire rushed for Endymion. " Golden Fire Destroy!" A ball of golden fire met the blue one. He rolled out of the way but the aftershock hit his left side. He cringed in pain as he tried to stagger to his feet. He had to reach Serenity. He was almost there just a little farther. She slowly looked up reaching for him. For Serenity everything slowed as if each second was an eternity. She saw Azurite behind Endymion a look of twisted evil on his face. His face was distorted with hate it didn't even look like him. He drew his sword. It glinted as he lunged for Endymion. " Noooooo," Serenity screamed as she realized a second to late what Azurite was planning to do. Endymion turned and met the sword full on. The sword pierced his heart. He fell to the ground. " No No No," Serenity cried as she rushed to his side.

Beryl was extremely upset. This wasn't supposed to happen. She was supposed to take Endymion back to the Dark Kingdom. That was Metellia's plan. Now this meddler who thought he was some big shot had screwed everything up. She sneered. He would pay. She threw her scepter at him. It turned into a giant spear deadly tip glinting. Azurite didn't even see it coming. It hit him straight on. As he fell to the ground he yelled, " Mettellia why have you forsaken me!" His cry did not go unheard and his body disappeared in a flash of light. No one noticed as Rubellite, Corundum, Cassorite, and Maganite also disappeared.

Serenity lay sobbing over Endymion. Her dress was already soaked with his blood. He smiled up at her. She looked like an angel. She was an angel. " I love you," he whispered and took his last breath. The tears fell faster. She threw herself on him. Something clattered to the ground. She looked up to see a dagger. It had a silver handle with and onyx E carved on it along with the symbol of earth carved out of emerald and sapphire embedded on it. The tears suddenly stopped. She picked up the dagger caressing it. She knew what she had to do. Live wasn't worth living anymore. Calmly she held it to her chest sucked in her breath and pushed. Pain erupted and then ended as she fell over her dead lover's body. Somewhere in the distance she heard her mother scream. Tears of blood and water ran down her cheek as she closed her eyes.

Serenity opened her eyes tears running down her cheeks. Why hadn't she remembered all this before? Corundum, Cassorite, Rubellite, Maganite, and even Azurite. They had been good friends. She looked at her husband and could tell he was thinking the same thing. She reached over to take his hand. She looked around at her Senshi. Minako, Makoto, Rei, and Ami all sat in a stunned daze tears streaming down their faces. They had remembered that one's they had loved most had killed them but not in such detail. The generals were crying. Crying for there lost friends and crying for there lost memories. Though they knew they had been forgiven the guilt and anguish were still there.

Rei wiped the tears away with the back of her hand. " What I want to know is how did this happen and how do we stop this?" she said first looking at Serenity then at the rest of the Senshi.

" As to how this happened I have come to the conclusion that Metellia must have pulled Azurite out of the battle before he actually died and she must of sent him and the rest of the Generals to Earth as Beryl was being defeated on the Moon Kingdom. She could have been using them for a back up plan in case Beryl and the other Generals failed. She wasn't counting on being defeated by Princess Serenity a thousand years later," Ami said.

Serenity nodded her head in agreement, " So the question is why have they remained dormant all these years. Why didn't they attack earlier after I defeated Beryl and Metellia or why weren't they completely wiped out when the Dark Kingdom fell?"

Ami shook her head. " It's possible that there resources were severely depleated when Beryl was defeated or they could have been in a sort of stasis until Beryl or Metellia actually needed them. The spell could have just worn off as it did with the rest of the Generals."

" But wouldn't they return to there normal selves if the spell just wore off," Minako said.

" Not necessarily," Ami said face falling a bit.

" I'm betting on the first possibility," Zoicite said. " When we were under the control of Beryl she always hinted that she had reserve forces in the north and that if we were defeated we could easily be replaced. The destruction of the Dark Kingdom would have almost wiped them out but they could of survived this long slowly rebuilding the Dark Kingdom's old army. It would have taken them this long to gather all the lost rescources of the old Dark Kingdom's."

" And they're all under the control of Azurite," Endymion said speaking up for the first time.

" It seems that way," Ami said.

" So what are we going to do about it?" said Haruka wiping a tear out of the corner of her eye.
