Nicholas Chai is a graduate of the
Diploma in Fine Art (Painting) course in LASALLE-SIA College of
the Arts, Singapore. He is a recipient of the LASALLE-SIA Scholarship
for year 2002 and 2003. He has also won the Winston Oh Travel Award
2004.
He has recently exhibited in two
group shows in Singapore; "Erotica" at Art Seasons Gallery
and "Red + White = Pink" at Utterly Art Gallery. In
year 2003, his works were also shown in the "Absence and
Presence" and "LimeLight" exhibitions in LASALLE-SIA
College of the Arts. His series of paintings entitled, Alienation
has been featured in the October 2003 issue of Manazine.
A shy and reserved person, he explores
the idea of memory and desire in relation to his theme of Loneliness.
His work is a result of his personal concerns arising from the
issues of self-awareness and the human condition; particularly
of childhood, adolescent, sex and love.
