The Catherine Park

The Catherine Park surrounds the Catherine Palace. Unlike the Alexander Park, this park retains an entrance fee, which is probably why it appears a lot more cared for than the Alexander Park, although it lacks the latters quaintness and charm.

The MilkmaidEis considered to be the symbol or muse of Tsarskoe Selo, and is often mentioned in poetry and prose related to the town. What few people realize is that the statue that sits in Catherine Park is a much more current reproduction, while the early 1800s original is kept safe and sound in the Rare Book Fund inside the Catherine Palace.

Some of the original 18th century trees have survived in the park, but became unsteady. Large metal bands are used to hold the trunks together (below).
