Spotted (Pinto) Mules
Mules do not get the horse pinto patterns in their entirety.  Mules from tobiano dams have only 4 white stockings in 90% of cases where they inherit the gene.  Many mares are Tt, (heterozygous tobiano) and therefore the mule has a 50/50 chance of having any white markings.  So about 50% of mules from tobiano mares are solid, and of the remaining half that do have white, most are stocking-legged, with maybe a tail splash.  Those with a near-true tobiano pattern are about 1 in 100.

The Overo pattern has not yet been seen in mules.  We have no verified cases of overo mares passing the overo gene to mule foals.
Diamond has a partial tobiano pattern - stockings, tail splash, belly splash, and whisp of white in the mane.  Dam, tobiano Paint, sire, red roan.
Poco Gal is out of an overo mare.  She has a small forehead star as her only white.  The sire was a white/spotted jack.
Pretty Woman is a good example of the modified donkey spot pattern.  Sire spotted, dam bay AQHA.

Sassafrass is by a roan jack out of a pinto pony mare.  This is a perfect example of the odd "Skewing" seen in mule pinto spotting.   The pattern at first appears to resemble Tobiano, but both forelegs are black, not white.
