Chapter Eight

Alecia smoothed her hair down and stepped out the door. Sleep hadn't come easy to her last night. She hated fighting with her friends more than anything. They were so close, like sisters to each other. She rummaged through her purse and pulled out the key card before letting the door shut. Suddenly there was a loud noise and she looked up to find a young girl leaving a room, struggling to pull her shirt down. Alecia walked over.

"Excuse me, are you alright?"

"Huh? Oh yeah I'm great, just peachy. Let me just say this, stay away from the asshole in that room. He may have great lips, but he's an ass anyway." With that the girl walked off.

An ass he was, he was the reason she was fighting with her friends. It was about time to give him a piece of her mind. She walked over to his door and knocked, the anger building was just waiting to be released. The door swung open and she barged in.

"You know it's one thing to try to get to me, but my friends are a whole other story! What do I have to do to get it through your. . ." she trailed off as she turned to look at him. He was wearing boxers, and only boxers. She shook her head and continued, trying to focus.

"Anyway, I want you to leave my friends alone. I won't have them getting played by you, you. . . you pompous egotistical jerk! I hope you know that poor girl that left your room was a mess and do you know what she called you? An ass! She called you an ass and she's right! I got in a fight with Kris and Michelle because of you and your damn come on's. We never fight, do you hear me. . . never! I hope you're happy!" She yelled, her breathing labored. She hated this, she could feel her eyes burning. She wouldn't cry in front of him. "Just stop it ok!" she finished.

Nick saw this as his chance. He could help her make up with her friends. He couldn't have asked for a better situation than this. Not caring that he was practically naked, he stepped towards her.

"Don't come near me unless you don't wanna have kids!"

He took another step towards her.

"I mean it, I carry through with my threats."

Alecia watched as he moved closer and she backed up until she ran into the door. She looked at him coldly. What did he think he was doing, he was standing in front of her with nothing but boxers on and he hadn't said a word to her yet.

"Aren't you going to say anything?"

Nick took another step forward and Alecia grabbed his arms to stop him. She could feel the muscles tense from her touch.

"I'm sorry." He whispered.

She blinked, "What?"

"I said I'm sorry. I didn't mean for you to fight with your friends. You're very close to them aren't you?"

"Well yeah, I mean they're like my sisters. I hate fighting with them."

"Here, let's sit, ok." Alecia looked at him skeptically. "Relax I'm not gonna jump you or anything, just talk."

She nodded hesitantly, and neither moved.

"You know it might be easier for us to move if you umm. . . let go of me. Unless that is, you wanted to hold onto me for a reason."

Alecia looked down at her hands that were still gripping his arms and quickly dropped them, wrapping them around her stomach. It was too late, the feel of his arms was etched into her hands. So hard and yet soft at the same time, she was sure that once they held what they wanted, they held on tightly. She stepped back and Nick moved to the bed and sat, waiting for her. She walked over and sat on the bed next to him, keeping a good distance between the two of them.

"So what happened?"

"What do you think!" She snapped. Nick gave her a look and she sighed. "Well, in a nut shell, they told me I was being petty and immature cause I was being so bitchy to you. So I called them sluts pretty much and told them to go and screw as many guys as they wanted cause I didn't care. I shouldn't have said that, I feel awful." She whispered.

"Whoa, now why would you call them sluts?"

"I mean the way they were all hanging over you and sighing and batting their eyes. It's. . . it's. . ."

"It's flirting, Alecia."

"I know it was flirting Nick, but I mean they never do that. They just sorta do their own thing you know. I've never seen them get so worked up over a guy before and I guess I just didn't know how to handle that. That and the fact that I was worried about you." She heard Nick sigh. "I'm sorry Nick, but you know it's true."

"Yeah. . . ok you got me. But look, you've got to make up with them. I know how it is to fight with your friends. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten into arguments with the rest of the guys. It sucks, you need them like I'm sure they need you. Look, I wanna help you."

Alecia looked over at him. "Huh? Why?"

"Well, you wouldn't be having this problem if it wasn't for me."

"That's true. But look I can do this myself, I don't need your help."

"Would you just let me do this for you please?"

"Fine!"

"Ok cool! Anyway I've got an idea on how to get you all back together."

Alecia stared at him, after the way she treated him he still wanted to help her.

"We have to find some place that you can run into them. . . Ok when do you work tomorrow?"

"I don't, I put in for vacation for the rest of the time while I'm waiting for the complex to get rebuilt. I've earned it so why not now."

"That's right, you never did tell me why you're here. . . complex?"

"I didn't want to tell you, I'm not sure I want to now." Nick stared at her. "Ok ok, my apartment complex burned down and I'm staying here until they rebuild it."

"Ohh, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm glad you weren't hurt though. I never would've been able to meet you then." He grinned.

"Oh please, those cheesy lines don't work with me ok. But anyway, yeah no one got hurt thank god. So now I'm stuck here until further notice. But go on with your plan."

"Ok here's what I was thinking. You meet them somewhere by 'accident', ok. Most likely they just won't come if they know you're gonna be there."

"Alright, so how do I get them to wherever then?"

"That's where I come in."

"Oh?"

"Yeah, I'll call them and tell them I want to meet for lunch or something and then you just happen to stop by and take it from there."

"You know, that may actually work. Ok there's this park that we usually go to have lunch, they could go there."

"Ok great, that's perfect. So give me their numbers and. . . "

"Wait, how are you gonna explain how you got their numbers?"

"I'll just tell them I got it out the phone book."

"That's too broad, you don't know where they live."

"I'll just tell them I forced you to give it to me. Don't worry about it, I'll take care of it." He explained and got up and got a piece of paper and handed it to her.

She wrote the numbers down and stood up. "I have to go. I hope this works. Sorry for barging in here like that." She said walking to the door.

"It's ok, I'm used to girls busting into my room." He chuckled.

Alecia groaned and opened the door. "I'm gonna be in the room when you call them so I can make sure you get rid of their numbers. I'll see you tomorrow, around say noon then?"

"Sounds good."

"Ok bye."

"Alecia?"

"Yeah. . ."

"Does this mean we're friends now?"

"No, you owe me this. Once this is done and if it works that's it. No need to talk to ya then. Even if it doesn't work, I still won't talk to ya."

Nick sighed as he watched her walk away. She was tough. He had made some progress at least. He had to laugh, she had spunk though. He shut the door and pulled some pants on.
