| Ms. American States is not a beauty pageant. It is a mail-in achievement pageant. Contestants submit albums detailing their achievements, activities, and volunteerism. While there is an optional photogenic category, it is not the focus of the program. |

| Unlike many pageants, the Ms. American States program invites both single and married women to participate. |

| Contestants in the Ms. American States pageant are eligible to apply for the Ms. American States academic scholarship. One delegate will be awarded the $200 scholarship to help further her education. |
