Historical Comparison Essay:  This was an essay assigned after the study of Arthur Miller's The Crucible.  The objective of this assignment was to compose an organized essay comparing hysteria-related concepts between the Salem Witch Trials and another historical event such as the Holocaust or the more recent Attack on America.
Life Poems:  After reading literature by Walt Whitman, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau, students were required to write free verse poems sharing their personal ideas on the meaning of life and their self-perceptions.
What Is Freedom? Essay:  After the study of American Freedom Fighters such as Thomas Paine, Patrick Henry, and Thomas Jefferson, students were to write an essay about what freedom means to them.  The requirements of these essays were geared to follow the Michigan Educational Assessment Program test that students are required to take in eleventh grade.
Life Changing Essay:  Following the reading of Olaudah Equiano's struggle to survive through slavery, the students wrote personal narratives explaining personal struggles they have encountered and the lessons learned from these experiences.
