(Klatchianforeignlegion) Woodpigeon's wispy voice comes from the wooden ring, saying: I am working on a webpage in regards our grand Legion and would welcome any suggestions!

(Klatchianforeignlegion) Lamech's wispy voice comes from the wooden ring, saying: start off with some good directions :) and primaries would be nice

And so here we are. More on the Talker Channels soon. First, let us begin at the beginning...

In the Newbie Area you have to perform a little task to venture forth. TIP: Listen to all the Non-Player Characters (NPCs). Also type 'help rules' just so you understand the boundaries! Also visit commerce and buy a blunt weapon and a slashing weapon of some type so you can TM your fighting skills by five levels! This does help give you a head-start!!

If you wish to join the Klatchian Foreign Legion (from now on KFL to save my blunt fingers!) you really would be better off by starting in Djelibeybi, Klatch. But if you are someone that loves to role play, and wish to create a bit of background meat for your character, then you may wish to start from Ankh Morpork or as far east as the small town of Mad Wolf. Who knows, maybe you are on the run from some crime. But for us here, let us choose Djelibeybi. To get to this location, once you can leave the Newbie Area by typing out, read the shimmering sign and type 'choose Klatch djelibeybi'. Now don't you worry about that 'WARNING! This is a hard location to start in.' nonsense :P If you really wish just to get stuck in, start here because you have a long road ahead of you yet!

Djelibeybi, on the great continent of Klatch, is a slim country nestled along
the river Djel. The capital, also called Djelibeybi, was the seat of power for
the ruling Pharaohs whilst to the north the huge pyramids of the necropolis
line the boundary between land and sky.

Welcome to the Discworld: You will start at the crossroads of the Avenue of the Pharaohs, Market Street and Phoenix Road. Head north six times and you will come across a wooden pole with a maroon note attached to it.

read note

You read the Djelibeybi table:
Written in bold letters in Djelian:
The Djelibeybi route:
Klatchian Foreign Legion Djelibeybi Outpost
Istanzia River
Kom
Il-Drim
and back to Djelibeybi.

Ok, this is a fast and safe route to the KFL base! I don't really wish to give you the nitty-gritty of my time trying to get to the base! Middle of the night, lions nibbling my feet and clawing my back, an hour in the dark, etc etc etc. Got there in the end, bit by bit! Once the Djelibeybi Caravan arrives 'enter caravan' and you will be taken there in a flash (if only I had known!).

Once you arrive 'leave caravan' and head one north. You will notice several tents around a large fire pit. Head to the one to the west and meet Staff Sergeant Small. Type 'join warriors' and then type 'yes' as you are sure this is the life for you! Small will give you a small canteen and an open Klatchian Foreign Legion Guide. Both are very important, and read your guide as soon as possible.
Type 'info' at the base (or any warrior's HQ) and you will see your primaries. They are as follows:

crafts.medicine.firstaid
fighting.defence.blocking
fighting.defence.parrying
fighting.melee.dagger
fighting.melee.mace
fighting.melee.polearm
fighting.melee.sword
fighting.points
fighting.range.bow
fighting.special.tactics
fighting.special.weapon
fighting.unarmed.striking
other.direction
other.movement.riding.camel
other.evaluating.weapons

For those that wish to start in places like Ankh-Morpork, Lancre, etc, please ask a wizard or a priest nicely if they could portal you there or thereabouts! Even better type 'refer taxi' and you'll be introduced to one of the nicest clubs on the Discworld! Also remember to get a Talker! In Djelibeybi you can get one at the tent on the east side of the bazaar. Just type 'help talker' and you'll be shown all the spots and tips in regards these handy friends in the wild.

Now first things first, learn a touch more fighting to top up that which you learnt in the Newbie Area. Also to the east out of Small's tent is a handy little supply tent where you can start building up your gear and items.

A tip for those about to embark on a life of fighting!

Set the following (NOTE: This is based on my own humble experience, so play around with this as you wish)

'tactics response dodge'
'tactics attitude offensive'
'options combat tactics focus = neck/hands/arms (one of those three)(a handy way to change this quickly is to create an alias. Type 'alias focus options combat tactics focus = $*$' so in the future all you need do to change this will be type 'focus head' or 'focus neck' etc!

The best weapon for a young Legionnaire is a Klatchian steel sabre. You can start off using one of these right away, and not only do they work well they look great! You may wish to buy a small wooden shield too. As time goes on you will learn what is the best thing to wear. Have a look at NPCs and also your fellow players.

One thing you must also work on is other.health. This will give you more Hit Points. At your guild you can advance this to level 25 (in total that is 32492 xp and DjToon 8.12 to raise other.health from level 0 to 25). You may also wish to do the same for other.perception (same costs and limits) as once you venture to Ankh-Morpork, there are some light-fingered sods roaming about!! It is advisable to advance as many other skills as you can! These can be useful, as you will find should you start Questing ;)

You will now need to rearrange your stats. The most important skills for you my friends are Strength, Dexterity and Constitution. Remember you are in a Legion that is famous for saying "Er", so you can leave Wisdom and Intelligence at their base score of 8! At the end of the day, it is down to you how you wish to play the game. Will you be a role-player? Will you be out for the most amount of kills you can get right from the bat? Here, through rearrange, will all this begin to take shape. You can only change these once after, so don't worry too much if they are not for you firstly. But don't rush! These are your bedrock skills where everything you learn in the future depends upon.

Life in the desert is tough. And you, as a newbie (and even as an oldbie), will need to be quick upon your feet. There are some deadly beasts out in the sands, so be careful. Here are a couple of handy aliasas for your travelling and wondering needs:

'alias optw options peronsonal travel=walk' (Sets option personal travel to walk)
'alias optj options peronsonal travel=journey' (Sets option personal travel to journey)

By optj you can escape lions, rouge bull elephants much quicker and cover some miles. Though you may run into more trouble!

Anyway, this is a start and I hope it is a help! If anyone has anything I can use here please email me or just mudmail me on the Disc.

Good luck!

Maps used on this page are by the legendary map maker (since 1999!) Airk and Boot. Much thanks on these maps guys as they have saved my neck too many times to mention here!
