Grading Policy

Homework / Daily Work:  55%
Tests:  25%
Six Weeks Test:  20%

It is very important that students practice and apply what we have learned in class.  Homework will be assigned most days and it is due the day after it is assigned unless otherwise noted.  If a homework assignment is not turned in on time it will result in a permanent zero for that grade.  Homework is crucial to doing well and keeping up in math.  Please help your child and me by making sure he/she completes homework each night.  Remember that late papers will not be accepted...This is a WJH Math Department Policy.  The students are required to
show all their work on notebook paper to receive credit for their answers.  Please see the sample assignment if needed.  Remember:  NO WORK, NO CREDIT!!!!!  If you only have the problems and answers you will earn a zero since you did not show work to prove your answers.  Remembers calculators are not allowed!!!!
Extra time will be given due to absences.  If a student is absent the day an assignment is due he/she must turn it in upon return to class.  All make-up assignments will be in the make-up folder, and it is the
student's responsibility to check this on their first day back in class.  The student will be allowed the number of days absent plus one to complete the assignment(s).  For example:  If a student is absent on Monday and returns on Tuesday, they must check the make-up folder for their missed assignments, complete them, and turn them in by Thursday.  Only make-up work will be given the extra time -- not assignments assigned the last day they were in class or assignments assigned on the day they return.  If a homework assignment is not turned in at the beginning of the period on the day it is due, the grade will be a zero.  Zeros cannot be made-up. All work must be done in pencil to receive credit.

Extra Credit
Extra Credit is available online on the extra credit page.  You may do it on notebook paper or print it out and turn it into your class period drawer.  Please do not email it to me.  All extra credit is due by the due date posted on the extra credit page.
Extra credit will not be available after the Fourth Six Weeks.

100 Pass
"100 Passes" are like little awards given for special moments...putting forth LOTS of extra effort, doing more than what is expected of them, etc.  These will not be given out after the Fourth Six Weeks.
A 100 pass may be used to bring any completed homework assignment grade up to a 100.  The
completed assignment must have been graded.  Staple the 100 pass to the assignment you wish to apply it to and turn it into your class period box.  You must have the assignment so keep up with your papers!  100 passes may be used only during the six weeks in which they were earned.  100 passes may not be used on reviews, zeros, projects, tests, or quizzes.  All passes must be turned in by Wednesday, February 14th.

Tutorials
Tutorials are held every Tuesday and Wednesday after school until 3:45.  I will also be available Thursday mornings at 7:30 if scheduled in advance.  Students may use tutorial time to complete homework, review for tests, or receive extra help.  I feel that this is a wonderful opportunity to help the students succeed.  Each student will receive a tutorial pass punch card the first time they attend tutorials.  When a student receives 5 punches they may use the punch card as a homework pass (in place of one homework assignment).  If they lose the punch card it cannot be replaced, but they may start a new one.  All punch cards must be redeemed by Wednesday, February 14th.  No punch cards will be handed out or punched after Tuesday, February 13th.

Six Weeks Exam
A comprehensive multiple choice test will be given at the end of each six weeks.  There will be a review in class given prior to the test.  These Six Weeks Exams are also a great preparation for the TAKS test.  The exams consist of TAKS type questions similar to the ones we have had on homework, quizzes, tests, and our Six Weeks Review.

Please note that all on-level seventh grade math classes are assigned the same homework on the same day.  All students take the same quizzes and same tests.  If you have a friend in a different class (even if they have a different teacher) you can still work together on homework and prepare for tests and quizzes.  A study buddy is a great tool!  It also helps you retain the information when you "teach" someone else how to do it.  You could even "teach" to Mom, Dad, a grandparent, a sibling, or a neighbor!  This would be a great way to help prepare yourself for tests and quizzes!
