“Essays to End Homelessness” Contest

2008

 

ESSAY THEME:      What is it like to be homeless?

                                    What can I do to make a positive change in the life of a person?

 

GUIDELINES:         Essays should not exceed 300 words, must be typed or computer generated, and double spaced. Essays over 300                                                                     words will not be judged.

 

                                    Every student will write an essay for an English grade.

                                   

                                    Each section will choose one essay from their section to

                                                send in for the contest.

 

DEADLINE:             Essays are due to Mrs. McDonald by Tuesday, 28 October .

 

                                    Sections will decide on the chosen contest essay on Friday, 7 November.

 

                                    Essay choices must be sent to Saint Patrick’s Center by Wednesday, 26 November.

 

JUDGING CRITERIA: A panel of judges will select the three winning entries based on theme, thought, creativity and general presentation.

 

WINNERS & PRIZES:    Three winners will be chosen by the panel of judges and the school chosen will be notified in the second week of January. A member of Saint Patrick Center’s staff will present the three winners with a framed letter of recognition and a check at the student’s school. Every student who writes an essay will receive a certificate of participation from Saint Patrick Center.
