2002 - 2003
Palm Beach Gardens High School Pre-Medicine student, Vi Tran, earned first place in the Pathophysiology Knowledge Test at the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) National Leadership Conference held June 18-23, 2003, in Atlanta, Georgia. Students qualify to attend the national conference by placing first, second or third at regional and state competition. PBGHS’s HOSA students excelled by taking first second and third at the Florida State HOSA competition and three positions in the top ten at the nationals level.

PBGHS’s HOSA Chapter had the largest Florida delegation with forty-two members attending the NLC. Over thirty one hundred HOSA students from throughout the US and Puerto Rico competed in the annual conference.

Special recognition also goes to Majorie Pierre who received a top ten award for achieving a ninety percent mastery on the National Health Care Issues Exam, Yeon Kim for receiving an award for the National Recognition Program and Hetain Patel for receiving the Barbara James Award given for earning one hundred community service hours.

The following PBGHS HOSA students also competed at the National Leadership Conference: Mona Bhatti, Anjali Moorjani, Avani Moorjani, Jessica Joyner, Megan Sirjane-Samples, Amy Monk, Kirasue Habibi, Raj Rajpara, Johanna Ayala, Joseph Sconzo, Adriane Hill, Raquel Rolle Anthony Nguyen, Jennifer Durning, Katie O’Mahoney, Andrew Vivas, Brandon Gardner, Karline Pierre, Antoinette Joseph, Ashley Startzman, and Mintu Joshi.

PBGHS Pre-Medicine Magnet Coordinator and HOSA Advisor, Karen Kissel also attended the HOSA NLC, with instructor Patricia Lombard, Assistant Principal, Bill Weed and chaperones John Kissel, Betty de la Maza, Luis de la Maza, Karen Durning and Linda Weed.
