Turk Wendell visited my fifth grade class on May 17th, 2000. Turk had done a lot of charity work and appearances every Wednesday when he was with the Mets. He's won many humanitarian awards for his community service and this day was no different. Please allow a minute for all of the images to fully load. Thank you for your patience!

On July 27th, 2001, Turk was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. I wish him lots of luck in trying to help his new team win! He will be missed in the video room greatly.

Before meeting my class, Turk Wendell took a few minutes to sign Mets bumper stickers for everyone...

As I stand on the sidelines, Turk gives a 10 minute talk about baseball, his superstitions, and the importance of a good education...One of the questions that Turk was asked was whether he liked black cats. His answer was, "I love black cats. I think they're good luck."

The class rotated, taking turns in the field and at bat...Turk gave everyone a chance to hit, even if it took several pitches to do so!

Even I got a chance to face Turk. The first pitch he threw to me must have been a 90 mph fastball because all I saw was a blur buzz by me (He thought that this was funny). Eventually he threw me a pitch I could handle.
