I'm blessed to live in a small community named Hillsdale in the Northeast section of Louisiana.  You won't find Hillsdale on any map and there are probably more cows than there are people.   Seems like everyone is named Sharkey, Newell or Miller except for a few outsiders like myself.

But you won't find a nicer group of people anywhere.   There's always someone with a willing hand and heart if you need help.  And it is not unusual to come home and find fresh vegetables sitting on your doorstep.  Everybody knows everybody else and that can be good or bad, depending on how you look at it.

I moved here 20 years ago and I can't imagine living anywhere else.  I bought a house that was once the office building for a local lumber company.  We have established that it has to be over 60 years old.  It was given to the owner's grand-daughter, who sold it to me and I moved it to my property.  It only had four rooms and a front porch.

Matthew has helped me tear out the pantry and closet that seperated the living room and kitchen and now I have one big long room down one side of the house.  We added a "junk" room and a screened-in porch to the back so that when the mosquito's get too bad to sit on the front porch, I can still enjoy the outdoors.  We are in the process of remodeling the kitchen (which means as I get the money).

I spend a lot of time on the web and reading magazines to get ideas about how I would like for it to look.  It took me two years to decide what I wanted on the kitchen floor.  The house has hard-wood floors and tongue and groove pine paneling.  Even though most of my friends had some reservations, I chose to go with hard-wood floors in the kitchen.  We installed a heat pump two years ago which I am really enjoying, especially in the winter because I am a very cold-natured person.

I love antiques and that's good because most of the furniture in my house is hand-me-downs.  I  just cannot stand to see a piece of wood furniture go to waste.  I love nothing better than hunting through antique stores and flea-markets.  You just never know what you will find!

And you know.....despite the heat, humidity, mosquitos and other assorted problems with Louisiana.......I can't think of any place I would rather be.
While you are here why don't you check out Louisiana!
