Foreword
Hello! My name is Nigel Giam and I have been organising MRCGP courses for the last 7 years. I am a NHS GP and course organiser based in North London, having previously worked as a medical registrar and OSCE/PACES course organiser at Guys and St.Thomas'.
I sit on the
North and West London Faculty RCGP Education Committee and was the national London RCGP Faculties MRCGP Course Director from 2003-2007 for the old-style exam. I am a Programme Director for the St Mary's VTS and work with the trainee committees of both the London Deanery and the RCGP Faculties to support associates in training. I am a GP Course Organiser for Kings College (GKT) Medical School and an Examiner, Lecturer and Clinical Skills Supervisor for all rotations.
I attained a
Distinction in the MRCGP and during my preparation I realised the importance of practice and peer support in attaining success in the exam.
Membership to the RCGP does not stop at the exam - we strive to help others in not only attaining the MRCGP but to give an insight into college objectives and the role of prospective membership. The value of membership to a body that can support your continuing educational needs cannot be underestimated at a time when general practice faces many uncertainties.
I hope that the MRCGP will bring you interesting opportunities and challenges.
The Courses
Mentor Courses provides invaluable insight from an experienced course organiser who has run RCGP courses with college examiners at a national level. The course helps hundreds of GP's attain the MRCGP every year. When the Mentor MRCGP preparation course was set up, it was with the intention of providing something different. No crash course agendas, no large room lectures, no spoon feeding but an emphasis on practical exam technique in small supportive groups. Our goal is simple - to provide a fun, personal course tailored to your learning needs and costed to always give trainees value for money. We are fully aware of the huge expenditure of the assessment process and aim always at being the most cost-effective course nationally. All courses carry automatic approval for deanery educational re-imbursement.
We value peer support and appreciate that the MRCGP can be a stressful experience - help is always at hand. Whether you are sitting the MRCGP for the first time or as a re-sit -
support will always be provided before, during and after the course.
I wish you all the best in your preparation and look forward to meeting you on the course!
