Once upon a time there lived a mermaid called Lenora. Lenora was very fond of her fish friends as they were the only thing that really mattered in her life. Lenora had no parents – they had got caught in a fishing net and died a long time ago. So Lenora and her friends are very scared and try to stay away from boats, people and shallows.

One day when Lenora was brushing her hair, one of her fish friends Reggie came rushing up to her and said,

“I have some news! But I don’t know if it’s good or bad.”

“What’s happened?” asked Lenora

“Well… When I was searching for food, I came across a sunken ship.”

“Were there any survivors?”

“I don’t know. I didn’t stay for long.”

“Then we must go back!” said Lenora

“What do you mean WE?” asked Reggie

“Fine. Don’t go. I will go by myself.”

“But your parents were killed by humans and you don’t know how to get there. It’s not safe.”

“Then you will have to take me there.” said Lenora

“Okay. But I’m not going to stay.”

“Well lets go! I don’t want to waste any more time.”

So they went. Lenora followed Reggie. On their way, they came across their old, wise friend Owen the Octopus. Owen was kind and smart so he gave Lenora some potion in case she got hurt. Lenora and Reggie finally got there.

Then Reggie left. Lenora was all alone and was a bit scared but she didn’t want to leave. There could be survivors. She swam over to the ship.

Bits of the ship were missing. A shark was swimming around so Lenora hid in the ship. Luckily the shark left. Lenora looked around. She found a treasure chest. She tried to open it. But it was locked. She started looking for the key. When she was looking for the key, she found a person floating unconscious in the water. Should or shouldn’t she help the person? She had no time to think. Lenora gave the person the potion that Owen had given to her. The person started growing as tail! Oh no! The potion was only supposed to be for mermaids and mermen. Lenora looked closely at the human. It was a boy. He started to turn into a merman. He was wearing a necklace with a key on it. He slowly started to wake up. The merman and Lenora both got a fright when they saw each other. Lenora introduced herself,

“Um…Hello I’m Lenora. Who are you?”

“I am Derek. What am I doing with this tail?”

“I gave you some potion to wake you up, but the potion was only for mermaids and mermen so it turned you into a merman. I’m sorry. I don’t know how to turn you back.”

“Thank you. I know how I can turn myself back. Hopefully it will work.” said Derek.

“What is your plan?”

“I have a treasure chest somewhere around here and I have the key to open it. In the treasure chest is potion for humans. So maybe it will turn me back. ” explained Derek

“But you can’t take the potion in water otherwise you won’t make it out because humans can’t breathe underwater.” said Lenora

“Exactly. I will have to swim to shore as I am now, then take the potion.”

“I will come with you to make sure you get back safely.” said Lenora.

“If you want to. But I’m warning you, it’s dangerous.” said Derek

“Okay. I got this far so I might as well go with you.”

“Okay," said Derek.

So Derek swam to the treasure chest, opened it, then grabbed the potion and swam off.

They came across lots of dangerous creatures and managed to miss them all. The water got very dirty and they could only just see.

When they got to shore, Derek took the potion and turned human.

“Please come and visit my friends some time.” said Lenora

There was still a tiny bit of Lenora’s potion left so she gave it to Derek.

“Take this some time to visit me and my friends.” Derek had some of his potion left so he gave his potion to Lenora.

“If you ever want to visit me, take this potion.” said Derek.

They both said bye to each other then Lenora left. When Lenora got home, she started to tell a story about her wild adventure.
