On March 10, 2004 at approximately 3:03am, two subjects broke into a vehicle parked in a driveway near the intersection of Encinal Avenue and Garwood Avenue. The subjects were apparently attempting to steal the vehicle. A witness called 911 and gave police a description of the suspects. Officers arrived at the scene and saw two suspects running on foot along the railroad tracks east of Garwood Avenue.

A search of the area was conducted with the help of officers from the Palo Alto and Atherton Police Departments. A Menlo Park Police K9 located one of the suspects hiding in the back of a parked car half a block from the scene of the crime. A witness to the crime was able to positively identify the subject as one of the suspects who broke into the vehicle. Officers have developed leads as to the identity of the second suspect and the investigation is continuing.

Mr. Castro-Diaz was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on attempted vehicle theft charges.
