Flute and Guitar

Music by: CERTO

Today's generation knows music wherein the lyrics and accompaniment join forces in compliance with the dictates of the rhythm.  Music that doesn't march to the drummer is not understood by most today, therefore it is not appreciated.  But there are some of us "old timers" who do appreciate music wherein the lyrics set the pace and the drummer either submits or goes out for a pizza.  I am not, by any means, saying that cadenced rhythms are wrong.  What I am saying is today's generation only knows that style.  It is said that if you can't pat your foot to it, predict when the next note will fall, then it lacks "feel," or it doesn't have any "feel" in it.  But there are those of us still around who know that "feel" is not always relegated to the toes and fingers but finds all it needs in the strength of the lyrics, and of course the Presence of the Spirit.  And when properly executed with "feel" from the heart under the domination of the lyrics, the lyrics don't even have to be sung, especially if they're known by the listener.  If the musician wants to give special emphasis to a note/word that would confuse a drummer, he isn't compelled to move along to keep the drummer happy.  And contrary to jibes by those whose appreciation level isn't elevated enough to include this level of heart music, it is not "funeral music."  It is an expression of the heart that defies the compunctions of toes that tap, fingers that snap and drums that whap.

That being said, here are a few songs of the heart that are controlled by the lyrics and not the rhythm...and a few that you can tap your toe to.  I hope these melodies from my new CD are a blessing to you.  These Mp3 files were sampled at 64kbps for quicker download, easier streaming and less server space.

There are a lot of good, responsive speakers available today and anyone wanting to listen to music is poorly served with the standard little speakers that come with computers.  Good, responsive speaker systems for computers can be pricey.  Let me recommend the set pictured below.  This Altec Lansing AVS300 set is available at Walmarts and Sam's Clubs everywhere for under $40. These speakers have excellent bass response and crisp highs.  This evening I heard the files from this site with a computer that uses the standard little speakers.  That's when I decided to recommend upgrading.  Believe me, if you're presently using standard pc speakers, you'll be amazed at what $40 or less buys in these Altec Lansing speakers. Click the picture to go the Altec Lansing page that features these speakers. The link opens a new window.
