Movie Reviews

Planet of the Apes
If you loved the original POTA, and are wanting to see the exact same movie, this will dissapoint.  This movie has a few very significant changes to the original, but in some ways, is actually better.  The apes are more realistic, and the special effects are downright cool. But the ending nearly ruined the movie. WHAT IN THE HELL?....I recommend leaving the theater when the hero leaves the planet.  All in all, it's a very respectable movie, and definately worth seeing at least once.
AI
Well, this was certainly a different sort of movie. It actually made an attempt to make the audience think, and  was done in a very artistic way. For that, I congradulate AI. But because of  the boring, long drawn out,  downright silly plot, I was dissapointed. I'm sure by now everyone knows the plot, but hey, this is my movie review page so here it goes: AI is set in the future, where artificial intelligence is nearly as common as "natural " intelligence.  A robot company decides to make a robot boy that will love his parents as any real boy would, and they give the prototype to a pair of grieving parents whose real son is frozen (or something) and waiting for a cure to his disease. The family takes in David, and they're ok, until their real son gets better and David tries to kill him. They then abandon David in the middle of a forest, and David begins his quest to find a blue fairy that will make him real, so he will be loved.... sorry, it bored me.  I thought the ending was sappy, though i won't reveal any more details here...

Shrek
This is a very clever computer animated fairy tale.  It has many funny one liners, and a few thrown in for the-um- mature audience.  It's fun and entertaining.

A Knight's Tale
If someone puts a gun to your head and asks you to see a knight's tale with him, take the bullet.  This movie is SO BAD it's PAINFUL.  It attempts to mix anachronims and romance and heroism and tries to be Mel Brooks, but FAILS MISERABLY! It's not funny, it's not by any stretch of the imagination an accurate period piece, it's not entertaining.  IT IS VERY STUPID. But that's just my opinion. CHEEEEEEEEEEEEESEEEEEEEEEYYYY

Moulin Rouge
Not quite as miserably painful as a knight's tale, moulin rouge is only slightly better.  It has a stupid plot (prostitute falls in love with penniless writer, evil duke falls in love with her).  The characters are overdone, two dimensional, and unbelievable.  The music becomes tedious and cheesy at times.  There are some redeeming factors, however.  The costumes and sets and some scenes are done quite beautifully.  And there are some funny parts, too.  But it's not worth the time or money to go see it.

Ghost World

I had not seen a preview or heard anything about this movie before I saw it. I must say, I was impressed.  The movie is about an artistic, individualistic girl and the summer after her high school graduation.  It was done artfully and thoughtfully.  I would definately recommend it.
The Royal Tenenbaums

This is one of the most hysterical movies I have ever seen.
It plays with about seven very interesting and well developed characters to bring about a wildly entertaining and worthwhile movie. If you liked Rushmore, this is a must see.

Lord of the Rings

This is probably one of the more controversal movies out right now. Some people love it, worship it.  Others are sorely and bitterly disappointed. I enjoyed it. It was beautifully done and a fun experience.  It is worth watching just to see where you stand in the issue.. incase it comes up in debate class or something...
Amelie

I previously wrote:
Turn off your computer.  Right now.  Go to Pittsburgh.  See this movie.  That's all  I can say.

(except: why  can't morgantown get good foreign flicks?)

but...JOY!! Amelie came to Morgantown.  It's still one of the best movies I've seen.
This is my page about movies. NAnanana. I get to say that the best movie of all time is The Princess Bride. Ha.
