First of all, this page was built by and maintained by me, Ryan Reeves. I am simply a fan of Michael Waltrip (A Huge Fan). As much as I would like this page to be recognized as official, it isn't. I have no contact with Michael, and he probably doesn't even know this page exists. Anyway, thank you for visiting.
As of January 21st 1998, Michael Waltrip knows this page exists! (yessssssss!)
Michael Waltrip is the driver of the #21 Citgo Ford Taurus on the Nascar Winston Cup series. In his 12th full year as a Winston Cup driver, Michael made his Winston Cup debut in 1985. Michael drove for Dick Bahre, until Chuck Rider and Lawrence Harry bought Bahre out in 1988. Another change in 1996 to the famous Wood Brothers of Stuart, Virginia brought Michael to where he is right now. During his first year with the Wood Brothers, Michael suprised everyone (but me!) In being the first driver to win the Winston Select from a transfer spot. This win was his first on the Winston Cup circuit.
In addition to driving the Citgo Taurus on the Winston Cup series, Michael has a few more rides to compete with. The #21 Band-Aid Ford on the Nascar Busch Grand National series is one of them and is owned by Michaels wife, Elizabeth. In his first year with the Band-Aid sponsership, Michael has Already had 3 top fives, 4 top tens, and qualified on the pole in only ten races!
I will also mention that Michael has driven the #1 Band-Aid Ford F1-50 in a few select Craftsman truck series races this year. As soon as I get a few more details on this, I will elaborate.
Sometimes during and off week for Michael, he will enter a Winston West race. Michael lead 186 laps to win the July 27 WW race at Pikes Peak International in 1997. The winning car was the Michael Waltrip owned #55 Sealy Furniture Thunderbird, which has changed to a Taurus and now tours the Nascar Busch Grand National series with Patty Moise behind the wheel.
I have met Michael a few times before. The first time was in 1995 at the fall race in Martinsville. My dad took me to the truck race for my birthday, but unfortunatly it was rained out. While leaving, we spotted Michael walking out the gate and past the souvenir trucks. I fumbled around with the stuff in my hand to get my camera out, and ran over to get a picture. He stopped and posed, and after I took it, I showed him my brand new Pennzoil hat. He asked me if I wanted it signed (never even thought of that!). So now that hat sits on a Michael Waltrip shrine *wink* in my room. The second time was just a short autograph session at the Winston Cup Preview in Winston Salem, NC. The best time of all was at his 1996 fan club meeting at the Wood Brothers shop. TNN filmed RaceTalk during the meeting and had Darrell Waltrip as the host. These two brothers were hilarious. (Btw, if anyone has any info on how I can get a copy of that tape, please let me know). After the show Michael did an autograph session and we all got to get to know him. With the help of his daughter, Caitlin, Michael gave out a bunch of citgo stuff including a piece of sheet metal. Too bad I didn't win anything ;)
