Mote's Thoughts

Utu-Noranti Pralatong (Melissa Jaffer) Is a Traskan, almost 300 Cycles old. She boarded Moya after being rescued from the destroyed command carrier at the end of season 3, much to the dismay of the crew's olfactory senses. Utu (Doctor) Noranti Pralatong claims to be a 'healer, cook and mediator,' although her medicines are sometimes just as painful as the ailments they treat, her cooking actually tastes more like medicine and her mediation skills range from moderate at best to downright poor.

She is a spiritual creature with the innate ability to use her herbs and medicines in ways that are nearly magical. Her 'third eye' is supposedly earned by members of her species only after many years of experience, and is only visible when Noranti is completely open to new wisdom.

She's gathered a few nicknames from the crew, 'grandma,' and 'wrinkles,' being the most common. She does not bathe, so no one likes to stand too close to her and her most endearing trait seems to be her inability to find things humorous for completely the wrong reasons (perhaps it's because she is always stoned.) When Sikozu told her that she "defied every theory of natural selection known," Noranti laughed bashfully as if told she had won a beauty pageant. This is perhaps my single favorite trait of Noranti's and I hope that the writers continue to play with it.
