A visit to Morning
Star, 20th October 2006
It was quite a while since I met my neighbour Anu, who came down from
Canada and who showed some interest in the children of Morning Star. At
first, we decided to go there by bike, but his family convinced him that
it was not feasible as there was a wedding the next day and he would not
be in a position to attend it if he did so. Godfrey his brother in law kindly
decided to take him there by car and we went peacefully, and were really
thankfully grateful for the ride.
Anu and Godfrey were introduced to John, and as it was holiday time the children
were scattered all over, some under the trees of their Park around the round
tables chatting. We met the challenged kids, and also a
new challenged child
whose name was given as Sumo
!, and who seemed to be quite active. Later we went round the quarters,
and the visitors were brought up to speed as to the children's day to day
routines and welfare.
Some kind soul had donated a complete settee
that was placed in the Library. I feel that the Library may have to be
moved as this was not an ideal setup for the children when they referred to
the books, and had to so some work. The location is to be sorted.
While we were there we caught up
with Matt (whom I had met earlier with Allison on 2nd July, 2006),
a visitor whom I met on an earlier occasion, and who had come down again
to Bangalore from Australia, on a software project and decided to spend the
week end at Morning Star. He spent some time with
John
and the normal children
.
Joy took us around explaining about the projects that were in mind, the foundation stones were laid and ready for building if the funds were available.and we saw some new changes, one was a gift of a
'dish' TV
receiver, that obviously needed to be mounted properly, then there was
an exercise treadmill donated, but not suitable for the situation as there
was no shortage of walking exercise for the children and the others. The Children
have always been disciplined to be neat, and we can see a view of their
shoe rack
. Anu sampled some of the affection from kids, and was
taken up by Dan who held on to him while he walked around. While indoors,
we saw some of the greenery and flowers. We noticed how affectionate the children
were with animals also, Kannan and his cat!
What brought a drool to our mouths was the sight of a 'gooseberry' tree,
filled with with berries, taking us back to our school days, making us think
of chilli powder and salt!
A refreshing piece of papaya
was always welcome as it is grown on the grounds.
Still on the rounds in the Children's
Park, we came across a new 'project' , that is '
The Borewell
'. In the summer months, there was a shortage of water, and so Morning
Star was forced to drill this borewell. It is dug to 800 ft. Anu who saw
this, was taken up with the whole idea and kindly sponsored the same. The
drilled granite soil was laid on the the slippery pathway, now making it
safe and asphalted, nothing is wasted!. What was remaining for the borewell to be functional was to get a sumbersible water pump, piping, cabling, and electrical fittings, (which has subsequently been procured).
