Raymond B. Burrows, 79, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, of heart failure at Scripps Hospital, Encintas.

Born Sep. 7, 1921, in East Los Angelas, he lived in San Marcos for 10 years. He worked for Chrysler before retiring in 1974 and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1968 and St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. Mr. Burrows was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosalie Sprague, on March 1, 1999; and his wife, Dorothy Burrows, in October 1986. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Lucille L. Burrows of San Marcos; son Peter Bono of St. Peters, Mo.; daughters and sons-in-law Tina and Don Overback of Carlsbad, Pat and Don Durand of Chesterfield, Mo., and Lou Ann and Frank Fucaloro of St. Peters; 14 grandchildren ; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Mass was celebrated Thursday Oct. 5, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, with the Rev. Donald Coleman officiating. A private cremation is planned and interment will take place at a  later date at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations to the American Heart Association, Attn. Donations Department, 1710 Gilbreth Road, Burlingame, CA 94010. North County Cremation Service is handling arrangements.

Funeral services were conducted yesterday for John G. Campbell, veteran editor of the Wellington (Kan.) Monitor-Press, who died Tuesday at his home, 4442 W. 60th St. He was 79. Mr. Campbell came to Los Angeles 14 years ago, retiring from newspaper work after 41 years of publishing the Monitor-Press. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Philena A. Campbell; a daughter, Mrs. Irene Davis, and four grandchildren.

Dr. Robert L. McCollom, 92, Sarasota, died May 18, 1996. He was born Nov, 22, 1903, in Whitestone, N.Y., and came to Sarasota 17 years ago from Huntington, N.Y. He was a retired physician who graduated from Dartmouth College and the Columbia School of Physicians and Surgeons. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II, receiving the Soldiers Medal of Valor. He was a member of the Dartmouth Ivy League and Retired Officers clubs and St. Andrews Society and the Squandron A Association. He served on the Sarasota County Drug and Alcohol Task Force and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and Church of the Palms-Presbyterian. Survivors include a son, Robert L. of Houston; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Southeast Florida Council, 1161 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL, 34236.

Friends here have learned of the recent death in Ossining N.Y., of Mrs. Levi H. Rumage, member of one of the pioneer families of North Olmstead. She was 100 years old last January. For some years she has made her home with a daughter, Mrs.Gertrude Thompson, in Ossining. The former Aurilla Stearns, she was a daughter of Gardner Stearns. In 1881 the daughter was married to Levi H. Rumage, a descendant of the Johnson family, Cleveland pioneers. He was born in a home occupying the site of the former Opera House on Euclid Avenue at E. 3rd Street. At the turn of the century the family moved to Buffalo, where Mr. Rumage was New York state representative for the V.D. Anderson Co., steam appliance maker here. He died in 1941. Surviving Mrs. Rumage are two daughters, Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Mildred Kerber of Lakewood; and a son, George V. Rumage.

Herbert A. Thompson, a retired advertising executive, died of a heart attack Tuesday in Saint Martin, Dutch Antilles. He was 76 years old and lived in Yorktown Heights, NY. Mr. Thompson, had been a director of the Erickson Company, a director of marketing and research of Arthur B{K}udner, Inc., and more recently advertsing consultant to Westchester County Publishers, Inc. He retired in 1963.

A pioneer in copy research, he was co-author with Leonard Luce of a method for pretesting advertising. He was a charter member of the Copy Research Council of New York. He was born in (Bemus Pt.) Olean, N.Y. and was an alumnus of Rutgera University.

Surving are his widow, the former Susan Willingham; 4 children from a previous marriage, Duncan F. Thompson, Mrs. Alan Purdy, Mrs. Sally Kuder and Mrs. Andrew Schoerke of Philadelphia, and 12 grandchildren.
