Rasle's Strongbox

This image of a 290 year old wood, copper and leather "strongbox", taken from Father Rasle's camp in 1721, is shown here with permission of Maine Historical Society. Colonel Westbrook lead a New England force which had been directed to apprehend Father Rasle and take him to Boston. The box, an Abenaki dictionary, and letters from French authorities allegedly confirming Father Rasle's role as an instigator of violence against New Englanders, were confiscated when Rasle successfully evaded capture. Note the secret compartment, revealed in this photo.

New-England Legends By Harriet Elizabeth Prescott Spofford

We use 'Ahnentafel' numbering. Numbers for a person's parents will be twice as large as that person's number. For example, if a woman's number is 15, her father will be 30, and her mother will be 31. Her child will be number 7. Living individuals often show by initials for privacy
