GETTING STARTED
WHAT YOU WEAR
The start of each session starts with the traditional greeting.  The sensei runing the session will conduct it by calling out the following:
Gi
Kibadachi- horse stance.  Left arm and leg moves out to the horse stance.
Seddach- Limbs go back to neutral position.
Seza-Kneel down with left knee turning to the side and sit on your legs with hands resting on your thighs with elbows pointing outwards.

Rei- Bow, keeping you face forward
The suit worn while doing jiu jitsu is called a gi.  It consists of a jacket and trousers which are usually white.  The belt is called an obe and is coloured to show your grade.
Tying the belt (obe)
The obe should be tied in a particular way that helps to give some support to the lower back, and the knot should be tied such that it is not a solid mass that could injure the jitsuka during breakfalling.

To tie the belt:
Fold the belt in half length-ways to find the centre. Mons should be placed on the right so when tied they appear on the left.
Place the centre just below your navel.
Wrap the two ends around your back (right side first) so that they cross. This should support the small of your back.
Take each end in either hand (so that both hands are in front of you), and adjust the belt so that both sides are equal in length.
Wrap the right side across your middle (across the band of the belt that is already wrapped around your waist.
Wrap the left one across in the same way, but then push it up between all of the belt's bands and your waist.
Make sure the belt is not twisted and pull both ends to flatten and tighten the belt  .
Take each side in the respective hands and tie a right over left knot.
Pull tight and the belt is finished. Check and make sure that from there is a horseshoe shape made by the knot, open end pointing to the wearer's right.
