P O E T R Y
MY FRIEND
in memory of Paul Alexander and Pastor Paul Wheeler

I never got the chance to say goodbye
Here I sit; alone I cry
Before I knew you were leaving
I never guessed I'd be grieving
A piece of my heart you took with you
From the earth your spirit flew
We've all been touched when someone goes
How we survive no one knows
Somehow we carry on, your memory stays
Life goes on, minutes, hours, and days
In truth, it's not dying we fear
It's being forgotten by those remaining here
You need not worry, you're in our hearts forever
Can we forget you? No, not ever
You were called from above, you're home at last
Sadness, illness, death now things of the past
Too soon, no warning, you simply were gone
Now for you, the great race is done
Someday, we'll join you there, together forevermore
You'll be waiting for us when we reach heaven's door
