FREIGHT TRAIN'S WHISTLE
For Dad

Too loud they say, you scream in the night
Why do you yell, spreading shock and fright
Great is your strength, swiftly you run
Whether in dead of night or in the blazing sun
Just a nuisance, no reason for you to be
But to me, your cry tells a different story
It's not anger or hate causing you to cry out
When I hear you, in my heart there is no doubt
You are the connection to my past and home
Over the mountains and prairies we both roam
Late at night when I'm lonely and sad
You call out to me, making me glad
A reminder that home isn't so far away
Close enough to drive to in a day
You pass the message along from the ones I hold dear
Though we're miles apart, our hearts are always near
I wave when you go by, maybe he did too
When he was heading home after the day was through
Whispering hello, send her my love will you
How can I thank you, tell Dad I love him too
