FAMILY PORTRAIT
For Brian

The family portrait sits there on the shelf
Memories wash over me as I smile to myself
How long has it been since we were together
Love draws us in, a bond the miles cannot sever
Mother, father, sisters three, two men, two boys
So many hidden tales of sorrow and joys
Something though is missing as I gaze at these faces
I’ve searched to find it in so many places
There should be one more, but he’s not here
I never knew him, but to me he is dear
Jesus, I know I shouldn’t envy you
He is your son, but he was my brother too
He never got the chance to see the light of day
But you made a home in Heaven for him to stay
He would have been a man by now, strong and tall
Surely a heart breaker, but he heard your call
You know best, I bow to your will
Lord, give him my love, I miss him still
My little brother I never shall see
Until my time is up and You call for me
