Results: Congratulations to Mrs. Delaney and our Competition Cheering Team as they placed fourth among the teams participating in the first round of Dominion District Cheering Competition! The first round of competition was held at Manchester High School on Wednesday night, Oct. 17th. The scoring was close, and those attending not only witnessed wonderful execution among the Teams participating, but enjoyed the school spirit and supporting fans! The second and final round of competition for the Dominion District schools will be Oct 24th. Combined scoring from the two events will be used to determine which Teams will continue on into the Regional competitions.
Results:The Monacan High School Competition Cheering Team improved their position with a great performance in the second night of competition and finished third in the Dominion District! Cosby finished first in the district, followed by Manchester, Monacan and James River. These Teams will next compete in the Regional Finals to be held at the Siegel Center on Monday night, October 29th, beginning at 7:00 PM. Tentatively, the Monacan Team performance is scheduled for 7:45, with the top-scoring six (6) teams announced around 9:15 PM. The six will perform once again, and from them, four (4) will be selected and ranked from our Region to advance to the State competition.
Results: The cheering squads in the Regional Tournament provided great entertainment for the competitors and fans! Congratulations to the Chiefs for placing third in district competition and advancing to regionals! Manchester High School, representing the Dominion District, won the Central Region championship at the Siegel Center and will advance to the State Tournament. |

Chiefs rated 'superior' at UCA camp Monacan Cheerleaders
Monacan's cheerleaders for 2002-03 athletic teams attended the Universal Cheerleaders Association Summer Camp July 9-12, 2002, at the College of William and Mary, earning a Supeior Rating Trophy. Monacan won three camp champions awards, the traditions Award, Spirt Stick Awards, and Excellent and Superior Evaluation Ratings. in Williamsburg. Six members were named to the All-Star team: Jennifer Hinton, Catrena Simmons, Megan Foege, Michaela Reynolds, Amanda Mozingo and Kelly Puglisi.
Tues., Nov. 12: Dominion District Cheer Competition at L.C. Bird H.S. Rescheduled from Nov. 6, with other sports, following concerns over Md.-Va. sniper. Fri., Nov. 29: Central Region competition at Manchester H.S.

Chiefs squad earns bid to National Championships Holly Baruffalo, Ashley Kagey, Courtney Thomas and Jennifer Witt were awarded All-American status at a National Cheerleaders Association summer camp at the University of Virginia in August.
The Monacan squad finished first among 11 teams from the state and won a bid to the NCA National Competition. Monacan's bid was awarded for technical skill and cheerleading technique. The Chiefs also won the top team award, the most spirited team award and the Herkie Award, named for NCA founder L.R. Herkimer and given to the team exmplifying leadership, values and teamwork. Judges based individual All-American awards on motion technique, jumps, tumbling, spirit and enthusiam. The NCA, founded in 1948, is the nation's largest privately held cheerleader organization. Its championships, held in Dallas, attract more than 20,000 of the nation's best cheerleaders. Monacan cheerleaders tie for 2nd in District, tie for 6th in Central Region Monacan's cheerleaders tied for second place in Dominin District competition for 2001-2002 year. They advanced to the Central Region competition, where they finished tied for sixth. |
