Thank you for peeking into my sewing room!! If you follow me I will tell you all about how I began making country crafts, cross stiching and quilting!!

My first dabble into crafts began with cross stiching. My future mother-in-law was expecting her fourth child and I saw the cutest baby pillow in the cross stitch shop!! I went in and asked the sales clerk to help me find the patterns and thread to re-create it. With a bag full of supplies I headed home to get started. After a few starts and stops I got the hang of it!! It turned out rather well!! From that point on I was cross stitching magnets and pictures for the house and friends!!

Then those cute little rag bunnies became popular!! Since I married very young and had two little ones right away there was not a lot of money for craft supplies so my mom gave me old sheets, my dad, a supervisor at a cloth factory, brought me tons of sample swatches and then I used my imagination!! My mother-in-law let me borrow a bunny she bought and I made my own pattern and sewed it by hand!! She still sits on my guest bed!!

When my ex-husband got transferred to North Carolina I tried my hand at sewing. Bear in mind I had never attempted to sew more than a hem by hand and had never ventured into a home economic class so cutting out a pattern and figuring out what went where was something of a challenge!! I made a christmas jumper the first time...took me about three days!! I made a second christmas jumper in one day!!

I have to say my greatest undertaking, the one I take the most pride in is my quilting!! I have my Deegana to thank for that endeavor!! She gave me the squares for a basket quilt that had been given to her when she was sixteen!! She gave them to me when I was sixteen but I had put them away and forgotten about them until quilts became popular!! I was telling her about a quilt my mother-in-law bought and she asked if I had ever done anything with the one she gave me. At the time she had just found out she had cancer and I decided I had to find the quilt squares and finish the quilt before she died!! Well I found the aged white squares with the faded basket pattern and began sorting my cloth by colors and patterns to cut the little triangles that would become a basket!! I worked for months and had sore fingers but the end result was worth the look of pride on her face!! I imagine a collector would love to have it but this quilt is priceless!! Since then I have designed and made several quilts!! I hope to put pics of them up soon!!

Off and on over the last 10 years I have made all sorts of country crafts!! Anything from raised stars, dolls, ceramics to the little wooden shelfs and other types of wooden crafts!!

Before my first son was born with little money to set up a nursery, I repainted a second hand crib and squinting to see the details in an old Sears catalog I re-created Winnie-the-Pooh!! If you did not look too closely (my hand was a little shaky *L*) you would think it was straight out of the mail order catalog!! I had the pleasure of knowing I did it myself for the baby I was so excited to have!!

I hope you enjoyed hearing about my favorite hobby!! In time I hope to have pics of the different things I have mentioned here!! Bookmark this page, so you can come back to check for pics!!
