Not only is the Roman Colosseum a beautiful and magnificent structure now, but it was even more so in the time of the Romans. This magnificent structure had one Roman god or goddess in between each arch. The floor, now completely destroyed, had been extremely large and had a series of trap doors and machinery underneath which was used to create the illusion of gods and goddesses and sometimes animals appearing from thin air. Also, the Colosseum was the main amphitheater used to host the Roman gladiators. The gladiators were slaves or prisoners forced to fight to the death for the entertainment of the people of Rome. |
